Description

Nov. 13 1923.
R. H. GIBSON PUMP PIPE LIFT Filed Dec, 13. 1920 ROBERT E. GIBSON, @Il C Rl-EON, ALBERTA, CANADA..
To @ZZ Be it known that. son, of the village o ince of Alberta,
.PUT/IP IPI Application led December 1 iii/wm t may concer/n l, Bonnin* HENRY Giei Carbon, in the Prov- Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump iipe Lirts, oi` which the tollowiing is the sperication.
diy invention relates to improvements in pump pipe lifts and the object of the invent-ion is to devise pipe lift that will be tree to slide down the pipe in a. well and which can be so actuated at point as to grip the from the well. struct a pump-lift t A further any particular pipe :ind litt the same object is to conhzit will be capable of beingreadily end quickly ett-ached to, and
detached My invent-ion con structed and more particularly descrii'iec vice constructed according 4from the pipe.
sists ot' a device conarrenged all as hereinafter l and illustrated drawing` in which:
side elevation of u del'o my invention showing' the same appli-ed to the pipe.
Fig- 2 is an elevati right angles to Fig. Fig. 3 is e plan vi Like characters of responding l is th having n. eoncaved ii ber. 7 are vertical through at its lower end witl member having the eoncaved inte vided with suitable trunnions member 9 intermedi the same and provid n pair of lugs 5 and 6 on oit the Same taken at l, and
reference indicate corparts in the dilllerent views. e pipe, v2 is a convexed member iterior provided with 5 and 6 are suitably lugs extendingletconvexed meinbolts, each extending and provid-ed 9 is a lever ior 10 pro- 1. 12 are i a nut 8.
Serrat-ions 1 extendingF laterally from the ately ot the length ot ed with the pins 13 ei;-
tending' vertically theretliroirgh.V
14 are links pivote spective lugs 5 and 6 ends ce hook rrying the rings 1 ed to extend over the trunnions 1Q.
suitably connected to hook adapted to engage lly connected to the rehj. the bolts 7, the free 5 which are adapt- 16 is a :i cable 17, said ringl 18 on the lower end of the lever member 9.
The operation of t The device is top of the well bf the links 14 over the being norm ally held applied to he device is as follows: the pipe et the ookinrj the rings 15 ot trunnions 12. said rings thereon by the' pins 13,
PE LFT.

thus the member 2 is held on one side of the pipe and the member 9 on the other side. lf force is exerted on the 'treeend of the lever 9 it will be seen that the mer bers 2 and 9 will be practically free on the pipe and will be permitted to slide down the sume under the torce of gravity. Y
lWhen the device has reached the desired point it is merely necessary to pull on the cable 17 which will` through the medium of the hook 16 and the ring` 1S, pull up the free end of the lever member 9, thus drawing` the member 2 inwardly and causingthe serrations 1- to engage the pipe. Simultaneously the serrations 11 ot' the member 9 engages the other side ot the pipe and consequently us long es the cable 1T pulled upwardly the pipe 1 will be tightly held hetween such members und S) and cnn be pulled up trom the well.
From the above description it will be ap-- parent that l have devised i simple und et tective pump pipe litt :ind one that can be readily und quickly applied to the pipe.
`Further a device constructed :recording to my invention can be :minutectured very cheaply.
lVhat I claim as my invention is:
1. In a,v pump pipe litt, u, convened meniher having' n serrated couczived interior for application to one side ot u pipe. a lever member having' n serrated coucaved interior Ator application to the other side ol the pipe, links pivota-lly connected to the converted member, laterallyv extendinrr trunuions on the lever member. rings on the free ends ot the linke` adapted to extend over the truu iiions, pins extending' through the ti'uimions for normally holding the rings thereon and means connected with the tre-e end of the lever member t'or pullingr'thc sume in u torvverd direction.
2. A device ot the character deecribed. comprising coectinnv gripping members. zi pair ot spaced superposed lugs projectingA outwardly troni euch ot' opposite sides of one ot seid nicmliiers. pin extending` 'uetween the lugs ot each pair and links counected between said pins and the remaining .qi'iiLip-iiig member.
A device accordingl to claim wherein thc seid pins are detachsili-lv secured to the lugs with which they ure associated.
l. A. device urcordinn' to claim 2. in which cech ot seid pins is in the torni ot a bolt having a heed at one end for engaging one lng'nnd a nut the opposite end l"or engaging the remaining lug.
5i A device of the Character described, eemprising coa-eaing gripping members, trunnions carried by one of seid members; links carried by the remaining member, rings secured to eeive the Jui'nnnions therethrough and ineens for retaining the trnnnions and rings in nssembled relation.
6. A device oi: the eharnoer deseriled7 comprising coaeting grippiin1 members`r trunnions carried by one member and rings eerried by the other member *for receiving the trunnions thereihrough. v
Y. A device of the @hara-eter described, eon'iprising eoeeing gripping members` pro said links adapted to ref' vided with opposing gripping surfaces, one oi:` seid inenibers being formed with en integral lever exension extendingV outwardly und downwardly with respect to the gripping snrlziee jhereo'li, ineens pivotelly Connecting the lever extension to the other member and ln'iisting ineens eonneeted io the lower end or seid extension, in which J(he means for connecting the men'ibers together comprises rnnnions carried by the lere: extension of ene member, rings receiving Jche 'trunnions therethrough end n'ieens connecting Athe rings to the remaining member.
