Description

yG. H. BACON & J. H. SAWYER.
Peg-Cutting Machines.
Patentd Feb. l0. 18174.
AH e s yad/Z UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CHARLES Il. BACON AND JEROME H. SAVYER, OF BOSTON, MASS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PEG-CUTTING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 147,356, dated February 10,1874; application tiled February 2, 1874.
To all 'whom it vmay concer/1:
Beit known that we, JEROME ll. SAwrEn and CHARLES H. BACON, citizens of Boston, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Peg-Out ting Machines, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference beingv had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal section of our invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the under side of the saine. Fig. 3 is aperspeetive ofthe saine.
Our invention relates to that class of pegcutting machines known as powerniachines g and it consists in the combination of the several parts, as hereinafter explained.
lo enable others skilled in the art to inake and use our invention, we will describe the exact manner in which we have carried it out.
In the drawings, A represents the stock of the cutter, through which passes the bar from the power to the cutter B, moving in an open head, C, provided with curved guards c c. The cutter B is curved, as shown, to conform to the curviature of the ball of the foot, and to avoid cutting or digging into the sole while bul'iing and smoothing it oit'. curved cutter, in connection with the open head, allow the pegs, when cut off, to clear themselves and fall through, and not to choke or clog the cutter. The curved guards c e serve to protect the 1i[.)per-leather from damage while the cutter is being used, while the curved ways (Z d support the cutter in its line of travel. The plate D, provided with the stud e, (which slides in the slot jf, as shown in Fig. 2,) is secured to the cutter-plate, and serves to steady and guide it in its curvilinear track.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a peg-cutting machine, the combination of the curved slotted cutter B, the open head (l, provided with the guards e c and ways d d, and the plate D, all constructed and oper4 ating sul'istantially as and for the purpose set forth.
C. H. BACON.
