IMPROVEMENT IN PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,317, dated February 10, 1874; application filed November 2'2, 1873.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. FIELDS, of Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Press, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a horizontal section of my improved press, taken on linew w of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a Vertical section, taken on the line 3 y of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the wheel of the sweep, the latter being sectioned on the line z z.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the press-case, which is arranged horizontally. Bis the follower; C, the followerstem; D, the guide-pulleys on the stem E, the ropes or chains; F, the pulley on the sweep G for working said chains; H, the point where the chains or ropes are fastened to the frame of the machine, and J the points where the ropes or chains are fastened to the sweeppulley.
As the ropes or chains run in opposite directionsfrom the points of connection to the wheel, over the latter, and the guide-pulleys to the point of fastening to the press-frame, it will be seen that a forward-and-backward movement of the sweep will move the follower up and back.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the press-case A, having shaft H, and follower '13, having stem 0, of the guide-pulleys D D, rope E, and vibratory sweep-pulley F, having arm G, as and for the purpose described.
