Application filed June 9,
To all whom 'it 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, Vf INFIELD SNELsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Commerce, in the county of Ottawa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dinner -Fails; and I do hereby declare the following to be a lull, clear, and exact description of the invention, 4such as will enable others skilled in the art to which `it appertains to make Aand usefthe same.
This invention relates to a 'container for food and drink, whereby various articles ot food may be carried in a single receptacle such as a bucket or pail and be keptentirely separated without mixing and in which the bail when in upright or carrying position is positively held'from swinging, and which bail in turn operates as locking means for securing .the cover yon the `container against possible displacement, said bail when lowered into inoperative position `automatically releasing the cover which 'may be removed or replaced as required.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodi- V ment of the invention it is to be understood Figure 4 is an elevation of one of the ears and parts of the pail, cover and bail showing the same on a larger scale,
Figure 5 is a top plan view otthe parts shown in Figure 4, and
Figure 6 is a sectional detail on the line 6-6 of Figure 4, the full lines showing the bail elevated and in locking engagement with the cover, and the dotted lines illustrating the position of the bail when lowered and disengaged from the cover. Y
1922. serial No. 566,998.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to inthe following descriptionand designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The container comprises a bucket or pail 1 which is preferably, though not necessarily, of oval contour in plan view.
A vessel 2 of corresponding shape is suspended within the upper portion of the pail 1 and is of less depthfthan said pail so as to leave the space 3 which constitutes a compartment for a beverage or drink such as coffee. The bottom of the vessel 27constitutes a cover 'for the compartment The vessel 2 tapers slightly throughout its length to facilitate its entrance and removal from the pail 1. The upper edge of the vessel 2 is outwardly rolled or beaded as indicated at 4 so as to extend over the'upper edge of the pail 1 and support the vessel therein.
A sectional tray is adapted tobe placed within the lower portion `ot the vessel 2 and comprises similar or like sections 5 each divided to form compartments 6 which are adapted to receive edibles of different varieties such as meat and vegetables or fruit.
If preferred for any reason, the sections 5 comprising the food tray, may be placed one upon the other thereby leaving a space at one side for bread, fruit or other article. A shallow tray 7 is adapted to be suspended within the upper portion of the vessel 2 by means of an outer roll or flange 8 at its upper edge engaging over the beaded edge 4 of the vessel 2. The tray 7 is adapted to receive a delicacy such as pie, cake or the like.
The pail is adapted to be closed by means of a cover 9 whose depending rim has an outer flange, bead or roll 10. The cover 9 is provided with a handle 11 for convenience ot manipulation thereof.
What is claimed is:
1. A dinner pail comprising a container, a
fitted within the upper portion of the vessel and having an outer bead or extension to overlap the upper edge of the vessel and support the tray therein. 2. A dinner pail comprising a container, a cover therefor havin an outer extension, ears attached to opposite sides of the container and projecting above the same and having vertical grooves in their. outer sides, and the upper edges of the side walls inclined, and a spring a'bail having inturned pivot ends engaging-.the ears and adapted to engage over the outer extension of the cover andrsecure the lat-ter'when the bail is in'upright position, said pivot ends being withdrawn from engagement with thecover when lowering the bail and the riding-'of the ends thereof on the inclined ends of the ears.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
