JOHN P. CONNELL, OF KENSINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM, WATER, AND GAS COCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,240, dated February l0, 1874; application filed December 30, 1872.
vTo all who/m it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jol-1N I'. CoNNELL, of Kensington, Hartford county, Connecticut, have invented an Improved Globe-Valve, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, Where- Figure l is a side view of the Whole valve. Fig. 2 is a view of the same in central vertical longitudinal section.
The letter a indicates the globular part of the valve; b, the entrance-pipe; and o, the exit-pipe. d is the partition in Which is the valve-seat d', facing toward the entrance-pipe. e is the valve proper, and j' the valve-stem, having on its outer end the operating-Wheel g. There is a screw-thread, j", ou the stem f, taking into the nut or collar fi, resting in a corresponding recess in the neck h, and held from turning by the pin i projecting from the nut and into a corresponding recess in the neck. The letter g indicates the stuffing-box, screwing upon the neck h.
It will be observed that the neck h is solid, except the hole for the valve-stein, and can therefore be east in one piece with the globe a and pipes b c. Not only this, but the pressure of the uid coming in at the pipe b tends to always close the valve into its seat and make it tight; and a valve thus made with solid neck h is not liable to explode by having the plug-sereT driven out.
I claiin as iny invention- The neck h, solid except a hole for the valvestein, and made upon and in one piece with the body a, in combination with the threaded valve-stein j', the nut held from turning, and the stuffing-box g', all constructed, arranged, and designed for operation and use, substantially as described. l
Dated October 13, 1873.
JOHN I. CONNELL.
