DOOR HANGER.
Application filed October 12, 1922. f Serial No. 594,104.
To all whom t may concern.'
Beit known that I, IRVIN W. DAVIS, a citizen of the 1United States,and resident of South Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, 5 and State of Vfisconsin, have invented new and useful improvements in Door Hangers, of which the following isa description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which arc a part of this specification. Y
This invention relates to door hangers and more particularly to adoor hanger wherein the hanger frame is adjustably mounted with reference to the pulley.
The invention has for its particular object to provide a construction of this type wherein the pulley is revolubly mounted on a spindle, which spindle in turn is mounted on the hanger frame so that frame Vis capable of longitudinal adjustment. rlhe construction about to be described provides means for fixing the pulley onto the spindle so as to prevent an axial displacement of the pulley relatively to the spindle, at the same time permitting the desired adjustment of the hanger frame relatively to the spindle.
The novel construction, combination and arrangementof parts'wherein this desired object is efficiently accomplished will be made more apparent as the description proceeds, especially when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings. In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a hanger constructed in accordance with this inven tion;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the plane indicated by line 2 2 in Fig.
o 1, the same being shown on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section taken on the p-lane indica-ted by line 3-3 in Fig. 2;'
l.. door hanger frame 13 is secured to the door by means of bolts 14 or the like. The upper end of the hanger frame 13 is provided with an outwardly extending portion 111', thereby providing a space which is spanned by a spindle 15, externally threaded at one end thereof for engagement with the hanger frame 13. The reduced end 16 of the spindle extends through the extension 11i of the hanger frame.
The threaded portion 15 of the spindle terminates in ashoulder 17, and adjacent this shoulder and surrounding` the reduced portion 16 is a sleeve 18 provided with extensions 19 and 2O at the ends thereof.
The sleeve 18 is secured against axial displacement relatively t0. the spindle 15 by a pin 21 at one end thereof, and a cotter pin 22 at the other end thereof, which pins lextend through openings formed transversely of the spindle 15. A collar or washer 23 surrounds the spindle 15 and bears on its one side against the shoulder 17 This collar is provided with recesses 2i for accommodating the pin 21, and with the recesses 25 for accommodating the projections 19 of the sleeve 18.
:DisposedV adjacent the otherend of the sleeve 18 is another Collar or washer 26, this collar being provided with a hub portion 27, see particularly Figs. 3 and 5. The hub portion 27 of the collar 26 is provided with recesses 28 for accommodating the cotter pin 22, and with recesses 29 for accommodating the projections 20 of the sleeve 18.
Revolubly mounted on the sleeve 18'is a pulley 30. This pulley is provided with a hardened steel bushing 3l, and interposed and between this bushing and the sleeve 18 are a plurality of roller bearings 32. Thus the pulley 30 is freely revoluble about the sleeve 18 which is fixed to the spindle 1t by means of the washers and pins before mentioned.
Longitudinal adjustment of the frame 13 is accomplished by inserting a tool into the recess 33 and rotating the spindle, whereby the same may longitudinally displace the framev 13 to adjust the frame 13 relatively to the pulley 30. For locking the spindle 15 after adjustment of the frame 13, there is provided a collar 34 through which is threaded a. lock bolt 35, which impinges .against the frame 13, see particularly Fig. 2. A second lock bolt 36, threaded through the colla-i.' 551i iinpinges againsttlie spindle any relative displacement between the pulley andthe spindle.
The constructiim oli the parts andi-the "manner ot assembling' is such that they may be disassembled with facility in order that 'worn or broken parts may be quickly replacedf Y While the particular ai.angjementA de scribed and illustrated herein represents one physical embodiment of theinvention, it is not` intended that this invention be unnecessarily limited vbut reservation is made to makesuch changes Vin the details of con-V ystruction as may come Within the purvien7 ot the accompanying claims.
Having` thus described the invention what is claimed is: A
l. `lnf an arrangement of the class de scribed, a hanger trame, a longitudinal-ly adjustable spindleniounted in said trame, means'tor locking.;- said spindle inf its adjusted positions, a pulley mounted on said lspindle and means for locking said'pulley onv sai-d spindle to prevent axial displacenient.
2S In afdoor hanger, ay frame, a spindle mounted in saidramc, means for longitudi- Y nally adjusting said spindle, alpull'ey revvolubly mounted on saldspindle andineans for,preventingaxial displacement ot said pulley'.
3. In a door hanger, a Jtrarne, afspindle mounted in.' said trame', a sleeve carried by said spindle, a pulley moiirted on said sleeve,
Vcollai'shmisaid.- spindle and engaging said sleeve. and locking' pins engaging said spindle and collars 'for preventing rotation oiE vrid sleeve and axial displacen'ient ot said pulley'.
Il. ln a door hanger, a frame, avspindle on its ends,` pins passingy thro-teliy said spindle adjacent each end of said sleeve, a
pulley mounted on said sleeveandr collarscarri'ed by said spindle arndprovided with recessesifor accommodating;said sleeve projectionsamlsaid pins whereby said sleeve will beuprevented from axial rotationrand' `said pulley vif-'ill be loe ed-agaiiist axial dis placenient Vbut permitted to revolve on Vsaic sleeve. c Y 6; In a han-ger lor doors, aliang-er frame,
a spindle mounted in saidframe, means for longitudinally adjusting said spindile, a sleeve on said spindle, saiid sleevei.lia.ving projections on its ends, pins. passing through said spindle adjacent each end ot saidlsleeve, a pulley Vmounted on said sleeve andcollais carried by said'spindle and provided with recessesfor-accommodating said sleeve projections andsaid pins whereby said sleeve will be preventedtroin axial rotation and said pulley will be locked against axial displacement but permitted'to' revolve on said sleeve. j
7. In a hanger, for doors,a hanger frame, a spindle mountedin said frame, a sleeve on said.v spindle, said sleeve havingY projections onits. ends, pins passing; through said spindle adjacentieach end of said,r sleeve, a pulley mounted on said sleeve, roller bearings interposedbetvveen said sleeve and pulley, and collars vcarried by said spindleand provided with recesses for accommodating said sleeve projections and-said pins ivhereby said-sleeve will be prevented from axial rotation and said pulley! will be locked revolve on `said sleeve; j Y ln testiiioiiy whereoil artlixiny signature.
