JOSEPH B. HENRY,;OF GERMANTOWN, OHIO.
RECEJPTACLE 0R, CONTAINER.
Application filed December 11, 1919. Serial No. 344,065. I
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH B. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Germantown, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles or Containers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to containers, and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved device connected to or formed integral with a can or other container for levelling a spoon or otherinstrument during the withdrawal of the same from the can.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved can or container for food ingredients, having means associated therewith for effecting the levelling of a spoon or other instrument without necessitating the use of an outside implement for such purpose.
A common requirement found in recipes and directions, for use of various non-level cooking materials, suchas granular, solid and semi-solid materials, is the use of a level spoonful of the substance. To accurately comply with the directions or recipe is a matter of considerable inconvenience to the housewife or cook. Heretofore a separate instrument has been used in securing the correct measurement by levelling the teaspoon, which is a time wasting and meddlesome procedure. It is thereforea further object of the invention to liminate this gommon waste and provide a means whereby the process is easily functioned without the loss of undue time or inconvenience on the part of the operator.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a can or any approved type of receptacle, having atop thereon provided with a' levelling straight edge and having a screw threaded upstanding closure attaching neck thereon.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the following detailed description.
In the drawing, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, the view illustrates acan or receptacle constructed in accordance with improvements of this invention.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown but the preferred embodiment of this invention, the numeral 30 generally designates a can or other receptacle preferably cylindrical in formation having a body portion 32 with a top wall 33 thereon, which is provided with an opening 34 centrally therein. The major portion of the opening 34 is circular, although the wall 33 is provided with a straight edge 35 facing the opening 34, whereby the contents of a spoon or analogous element may be levelled upon removal from the receptacle or can 30. A segmental screw threaded neck 31 is preferably provided for the major circumference of the opening 34, having the end edges thereof terminating at the ends of the straight edge 35. The screw threaded neck 31 is of course provided for receiving a screw threaded cap or analogous closure member.
From th foregoing description of this invention, it is apparent that a can has been provided, which whil relatively simple in formation. yet will permit of the effective, convenient and facile levelling of contents upon a spoon or like instrument. which is withdrawn from the can opening 34.
Varionschanges in the shape. size and arrangement of parts may be made to the form of in ention herein shown and described,
without departing from the spirit of the invention or-the scope of the claims.
I claim: r
Y 1. A container; including a top wall hav ing an opening therein, a cover receiving neck on said top wall about said opening. a portion of said neck being cut away and cooperating with an adjacent straight edge of said top wall for scraping purposes.
2. A container comprising a body portion including a top wall having an opening therein, one edge of the top wall defining said opening being straight for scra ing purposes, and V threaded neck extending about said opening from one end of said strai ht edge to the other end thereof. a
