To r/,ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that we, HAROLD CHARLES and lvnnn ANTHONY JACOBS, both subjects of the King of Great Britain, residing at Lecderville, near Perth, lWestern Australia, lConimonw'ealth of Australia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Dispensing Beverages fron the Bulk, of which the following is a specification.
This invention provides a compact and easily manipulated machine adapted to bev fitted on a pensing of beverages from the bulk and it comprises means whereby any predetermined flavouring essence or syrup may be concurrently added in any ratio'or degree to the volume of soda water ofthe beverage.
The dispensing of the different bever'- ages is effected by the same working handle which operates in common in respect of the soda water and different Syrups. This handle has a threefold action and function. Firstly-By its radial movement on its pivotal stem it is enabled to be brought into operativev cont-act with any one of the push down rods for the opening of the syrup valves. 4 A
Secondly- It possesses a lifting movement by a down pressing contact against an adjustable fulcrum member, whose position determines the degree of opening of the syrup valves and said movement ropens the syrup valve and also the outlet valve for the dispensing of soda water in the form of a hollow lstream into the drinking glass concurrent with the syrup. Thirdly-Such lifting movement reduces and restricts the tiow of the soda water from its high pressure storage chamber to an intermediate and central reception chamber in order to avoid flooding and waste during the dispensing of the beverage. n
The construction and use of thesek and other features will be explained with the aid of the attached drawings wherein Fig. l is a sectional elevation showing the machine in its idle position the inlet for the soda water being fully open for the free flow of same from its high pressure storage chamber-to the intermediate or reception chamber the soda water and syrup outlet valves being closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view but showing the machine in its active position the soda bracket or counter for the dis-v water and syrup outlet valves being open while the soda admission pipe is partially closed in order to reduce and restrict t-he liow and consequent pressure in the reception chamber during the dispensing of the beverage.
Fig. is an overhead plan view-for sake of clearness certain of the syrup compartments are broken away and their cover and working handle and members are removedthis view shows the disposition and arrangement of said compartments and their. outlet valves in the shape of an arc thereby enabling said compartments to be wedge or tapered on plan. Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 are respective plan and elevation ofthe swivel head for connecting the working handle to its pivot-al stem.

Referring to said drawings the machine comprises a central chamber .a which acts as an intermediate or-reception chamber for the soda water whose normal level is indicated at a: said chamber a being in free and open communication with and fed from a high pressure` storage chamber from which latter the soda water is fed by pipe al.
This chamber a by its'top overhang web a2 is secured to the bracket a3 of the plurality of syrup compartments: b which are also held on their base plate b1 by the retaining' screw studs b2 as seen in Figs. l and 3. Within said chamber a, vertical pivotal stem e is housed being tight sealed by stufting box c made integral with the chamber a and having gland c2. On said stem c is coiled a spring o3 operating between its nesting thimble c5 and the lower end of said stuffing box. c1, the purpose of said spring being' to urge and .return said pivotal stem c and thereon carried soda water outlet valve al to the idle position as soon as the beverage is dispensed as seen in Fig. l. This soda `water outlet valve al is of conical form as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 and interscrews on said pivotal stem c and is preferably made of rubber or like composition.

These syrup valves 701 are of an' overhang l form and type as clearlyy seen in Fig. 6. vTheir valve stems n are fitted with'coiled spring 1t? operating between they adjustment nut ,n3 and the vstuiifing box n1,the duty of said spring being to return thev'alves 70l to their closed'position'immediately the pressure 1s removed by the handle g from 'the head ofV the push down rods 70.
The syrupoutlet 'p by ypipe" p1 leads the syrup closely adjacent to the soda water outlet c, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 for dispensing into a glass or like vessel.
The operation of the machine may be briefly described r For the dispensing of a beverage V`of a desired iavor the handle g is moved on its pivot stem c to the proper position for operative contact with the push down rod of the compartmentas Z) containing the syrupA having such desired flavor. The handle g is now upwardly moved von its lpivot f3 thus bringing its terminal g1 into pressing contact with the head of said push down rod 70 thereby partially opening outlet vvalve 701 of said Vsyrup compartment 71 while by the continued upward movement Vof said handle g its terminal g1 is brought into pressing contact with the limit stop j whichv also acts as a fulcrum for said handle g causing the `pivotal stem c vto lift and open the soda ages, a chamber, a stein slidably mountedV therein, Van outlet valve controlled by the sliding movement of said stem, a head pivoted to the stem and an arm extending therefrom, a plurality of syrup compartments having dispensing' outlets, valves controllingY the flow of liquid through the outlets of said compartments, and aV plurality of controlling-means Vfor said last named valves arranged on an arc of n a circle and within reach of said arm.

In an apparatus of the character described, a chamber for carbonated liquid, an outlet leading therefrom, a plurality of compartments having outlets, valves controlling` said outlets, resilient means :tor holding said valves normally closed, vertically movable rods for controlling the valves of said compartments arranged on the arc ot' a lcircle, a radially and vertically movable stem controlling the valve of said chamber, a handle pivotally attached to said stem tor movement in a vertical plane and adapted to contact selectively with anyone of said rods.

In an apparatus of the character described, a chamber for containing carbonated liquid under pressure, an inlet and Y' outlet passage for said chamber, a stem vertically and radially movable in said chamber, said stem being adapted to partially close said inlet passages and open said outlet valve simultaneously, compartments having valve controlled outlet passages, vertically movable rods adapted to operate said last named valves, a handle pivoted to said stem having a terminal adapted to be brought selectively to position upon said rods, whereby said stem and one oi said rods may be selectively operated by a single movement ot said handle.

In a device of the character described, a chamber 'for carbonaceous liquid having an outlet, syrup compartments, said syrup compartments having outlet pipes leading therefrom to a position adjacent soda-Water outlet, over-hung valves controlling the outlets i-rom said compartments, springs holding said valves normally closed, a valve for said soda-Water outlet, means for controlling said compartment valves arranged on the arc ot' a circle, and a common means `for operating the valve of the soda-Water outlet and simultaneously operating anyone o'l said compartment valves.

In a device of the character described, a chamber Jfor containing carbonaceous liquid, compartments for syrup or the like, outlet conduits for said chamber and compartments and valves controlling said conduits, means Jfor normally holding said valves closed, and means connected With the valve of the chamber adapted to selectively open a valve of anyone of said compartments simultaneously With the valve of said chamber by a lifting of said means.
