My invention relates to scaffolds to be used.

A further object of my invention is to provide a scaffoldiniproved in various particulars with respect to its portability and the facility with which the scaffold can be as sembled or disassembled. I
The invention also has in view the production of a light portable structure that can be handled readily by one man if necessary. 7
The invention contemplates furthermore to make it impossible ion the platforinto drop except at the will ofthe person using it and to positively prevent the platform from swaying in any direction.

The dog 181 has e spring 138 secured to its cross bar 32, the lower end of said spring being secured to the fulcrum 38.
llt will be observed. from Figure 1 that the outer cross bars 35 engage or dog into adjacent recesses 36, thereby sustaining the platform 19 in position. Upon the lever 29 being rocked upwardly the bar of the lower slide 24 will'take the resistance and sustain the platform 19 while the movement of the lever about its fulcrum 28 will raise the upper slide 30 and thereby carry the upper dog 131 upwardly for its bar 35 to engage a notch '36 above that notch shown engaged in Figure 1 (see Figure 2). Upon the lever being new rocked in a downward direction the upper bar will take the load and resistance of said lever 29 while the lever will through the link 27 lift the lower slide 24: and with it the platform 19. in this way the rocking of the lever may raise or lower the platform and dog assemblage by step by step movement.

I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, l claim:
1. A scaiiold including side rails, a platform, slides on the respective side rails and carrying said platform, dogs associated with the slides, said dogs engaging or disengag ing the side rails by move ients of the slides, means to actuate said slides, said means including a lever adjacent each side rail, and a guard rail detachably held by its,
ends on the respective levers.
2. A scaffold including side rails each formed with a series of notches at one side thereof, a slide on each side rail, dogs carried by said slides for engaging said notches, additional slides on the side rails below the first slides, a platform carried by the second-mentioned slides, a lever carriel by the upper slides on each rail, a connection between each of said levers and the of said slides in res onse to the rockin or i ,svnsea lower slide on the same rail, and a dog on each slide, said dogs adapted to engage or disengage the rails by a movement of said slides in response to the rocking of said levers.
3. A scatlold including side rails, a slide on each side rail, additional slides on the side rails below the first slides, a platform carried by the second-mentioned slides, a lever carried by the upper slides on ea 1 rail, a connection between each of said levers and the lower slide on the same rail, and a dog on each slide, said dogs adapted to engage or di engage the rails by a IDOVQHEQ said levers; together with springs secured the first-mentioned slides and to the adjacent dogs, and additional springs secured to the other dogs and to the connecting means between the levers and the second-mentioned slides, said springs tending to eiiect engagement between the dogs and the side rails.
4. A scaffold including side rails formed with notches at one side thereof, upper and lower slides on each rail, each provided vith dogs engaging said notches, a bar carried by each lower slide, a platform extending between said lower slides supported on said bars, a lever tulcrumed to each upper slide, and a bar pivotally secured to each of said levers and to each of said lower slides, said levers when rocked upwardly raising said upper slides and causing the dogs or said slides to engage the notches immediate ly above the slides and when rocked downwardly raising the lower slides causing the dogs of such lower slides to engage the notches immediately above said lower slides.
5. A scaffold including side rails, transverse and detachable tie mean for said side rails, said tie means comprising a bar formed with a laterally extending and open slot at each end thereof and an angularlydisposed reinforcing member connected adjacent each end of said bar and each formed at the opposite end with a slot, said slot being open at one end and extending oblique ly to the longitudinal axis oi? said bar, means passing through the slots of said bar and the slots of said reinforcing members for detachably securing said tie means to said side rails, said bar and reinforcing members being detachable as a unit from said side rails, a platform movable up and down said side rails, means slidable on the respective side rails and supporting said platform, and means for clamping said sliding means at various heights on said side rails,
