' F. B. PARKER v WRENCH FOR AUTOMOBILE PARTS Filed Decv 11. 1922 WITNESSES ATTORNEYS Patented Get. 16, 1923 FRANK B. PARKER OF ROBINSON, KANSAS.
WRENCH FOR AUTOMOBILE PARTS.
Application filed December 11; 1922. Serial No. 606,151v
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, FRANK B. PARKER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident 01'' Robinson, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented a. new and Improved Wrench for Automobile Parts, or" which the following is a description.
My invention relates to a wrench and more particularly to a wrench for turning certain parts of an automobile, particularly of the Ford type.
The general object of my invention is to embody in a unitary wrench device a means adapted to variously engage the parts to be turned such as the cap of a gasoline tank, the radiator tank and the oil petcock for testing as to the oil in the crank case.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wrench formed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof on a reduced scale; and
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line 3-3, Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example a wrench head is provided having an elongated approximately flat intermediate portion 10, the front upturned end 11 of which in practice is advantageously directed rearwardly on an oblique line to partially overhang the intermediate member 10 while at the rear end of the member 10 the head rises as at 12.
Integral with the rear upwardly extendmember 12 is a seat 18 having at each side an elongated lug, 14, the lug being undercut to present an overhanging portion, so that the lugs constitute guides to form with the seat 13 a socket for a flat handle 15 which in practicemay consist of a rule for measuring gasoline, the forward end of which is accommodated on the seat and engaged by the guidelugs l4:- s
The head is provided with a longitudinal slot 16 in the intermediate portion 10 and at opposite sides about equal distance from the upwardly extending members 11, 12, the'slot 16 is widened as at 17. ,At the frontend the slot is continued as at 18 in the upwardly extending member 11 and at the rear end of the head said slot is continued upwardlythrough the rear member 12. The slot 16 with more or less of the upwardly extending slot members 18, 19 accommodates the vertical flange members on the cap of a gasoline tank while the widened portion 17 of the v illustrated, since, manifestly,the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims. p
Having thus described my invention, I claim: I a
1. A wrench of the class described including a head having upturned front and rear ends formed with a slot longitudinally of said head and extending into said upturned ends, said slot between the upturned ends be ing widened approximately equidistant from said ends. 7
2. A wrench of the class described comprising a longitudinally slotted broad intermediate portion, and upturned ends into which the slot is continued, and a handle engaging means extending rearwardly from the upturned rear end. g
3. A wrench of the class described. comprising a longitudinally slotted broad inter mediate portion, and upturned ends into 'which the slot is continued, and a handle engaging means extending rearwardly from the upturned rear end, said handle engaging meanscomprising a seat plate and longitudinal overhanging lugs at the sides of said plate and forming with the latter a socket for the handle.
' FRANK B. PARKER.
