Clothes-Line Attachments.
N0.147,074. PatentedFeb 3J874.
WI NESSES: INVEN'I' UNITED STATES DIYIGHT IV. SMITH, OF FOX LAKE, YVISCONSIX.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-LlNE ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,074,
dated February 3, 1874; application filed November 22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DWIGHT \V. Fox Lake, in the county of Dodge and State of \Visconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in ClothesLine Attachment, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to provide convenient means for disposing of clothes for drying after being washed, and to avoid the tedious operation of hanging out the clothes in the ordinary way in the open air; and it consists in metallic supports or eyes attached to the clothes line, by means of which the line, with clothes attached, may be suspended from hooks in the wash-room, and then de-. tached and carried to the yard, and then suspended from hooks on the clothes-line posts.
The drawing illustrates my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- Snjrrrr, of
sponding parts.
A represents the supporting eye or attachment. B is the hook. U is the post. C is the line.
In order to give a proper understanding of l my improvement, I will proceed to describe the manner ,of using the supporting-eyes in the process of hanging out the clothes.
One of these eyes is attached to the .end of the clothes-line; others are attached a proper distance from each other, any of which may he slipped or adjusted on the line to suit the position of the hooks. To each of three sides of the wash-room a hook is attached, from which theliueis suspended by means ofthe eyes tubes, D D, for the line.
A. The clothes are then hung on and fastened or pinned to the line in the ordinary way. The line and clothes are now detached from the third hook, and the eye of that hook is at tached to the first hook, thus doubling the line. The line is then carried back and hooked to the second and third hooks and filled with clothes, as before, and again doubled by hooking onto the first hook, and so on, according to the quantity of clothes. The clothes-line thus loaded is readily detached from the hooks and deposited in the clothes-basket: The basket can now be carried to the yard by a man or boy, and the line, by means of the eyes, is at tached to the hooks on the ordinary clothesline posts, thus relieving the waslrwoman of the long and tedious operation of hanging out the e1othesau operation particularly disagreeble in a cold or windy day, and frequently attended with serious consequences.
The supporting-eye A is preferably made of brass or other non-corrosive metal, having two Through the lower one the line passes twice, as seen in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The clothes-line holder consisting plate A and tubes 1) D, as described.
