E. H. HANEY LUBRICATING SYSTEM FOR AUTOMOBILES Filed Nov. 28
INVENTOR. H. Haufe/eey' Edv/taire,
ATTORNEY w vii ad u in new and nce marked hrf'eon,
this applmzmn. M09. relates to lxnprfgvverneus for automo fe Yeincpa object of my to prov/ida system. having; ocaed at auch pon hm j and quc'y led Withou;
pling and wasltng ih@ 0M surface of th@ engin@ now Q f mHy w20 the SUM mam sup EL a msnm mi' the QM* ed am? Tui Ch amm, Kumara! denota ai; rwcfiie 4 A. pipa# 13 a. rubber over' Said tu? From th@ the tank pip@ hav gg v ,From either compartment of the tank a, pipe 19 lende to the packing gland of the Witter circulating pump 20, the feed through thin pipe being controlled by' e valve operated by menne of u stein 2l projecting through l i. 18 M o pes 22, suitably branched, lead to i t end rear spring shackles and and are provided with valves each rally centreiled by handled stems 23 through the control board 18, which is suitably lettered so that the driver will know which one to menipulete when he desiree to feed oil to ,nny certain part.
Additional pipes may be led to other niembere of the cer if desired, but those shown are sufficient to illustrate the possibilities of the system.
ince the pipes 19, 22 etc. are quite smell sind apt to have e good many curves in their extent, there is considerable surface friction tending to retard the passage of the oil, which would flow very sluggishly.
l 'therefore preferably provide means for maintaining the oil in the tank under pressure, euch as e hand pump 24 Whose handle is positioned adjacent the Valve control members; on the board 18, thus lproviding a compact and centralized control member for the entire system.
In operation, when lling the tank and crank cese et the outset, either et the valves 16 is left open while oil is poured into the teni; inutil the crank cese is filled to its normai. lic-vel es indicated by the usual gage prcvided thereon.
nevadas The valve 16 may then be closed, and enough oil fed into the tank to fill both com'- partxnents, thus giving e reserve supply which can be fed to the-crank case or other points whenever necessary.
From the foregoin description it will be readily seen' that I inve produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construe-- tion of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted having a series of designations thereon corresponding to the points of the vehicle to which the condults leed, and a valvestem on each valve leading through the control board adjacent the propel-designation for the control of the lubricant through its Vcorrt'esponding conduit.
In testimony whereof I alx my signature.
EDWIN H. HANEY.
