PAPER-HNGERS SECTLGNAL FRANK.
Application `leii August l5, 1921. Serial No. 492,620.
tvtate ot lllinois, have invented a new and uae'lul Paperllangers Sectional Flank, ot they will not break at the places where the ivliieh the following is a speciication. bolts vpass through.
l he invention relates to sectional planks Two wrought iron trames serve to connect used hy paper hangers, painters, etc., while the vthree sections. Both frames are alike, lo doing); inside worli in buildings. lt is often little@ a description of' one will sutlice for necessary to do such worlr in close quarters both. where there is not enough rooni ttor scali Hide bars lf3 are parallel to each other l'olding. and each side vbar has holes 2t to receive The present invention relates to sectional the rods 25. i relatively wide plate 23 eX- '15 planks which may be conveniently carried tends around and is permanently attached troni place to place and may bev separated on the side bars 13. VUpper transverse bars so that iii close quarters one or more sections 2t) are welded on the side bars i8. Lower may be used; or may be extended to t'ull transverse hars 'i9 also are welded on the length and used where conditions perniit. side bars 18. fit each end ot the trame is se o purposes ot the invention are; to proa space 2l which permits 'tree insertion of tide a paper-hangers planl; otf light yet the ends ot the sections between the transrin'id construction.comprisi i a plurality ot verse `bars 'i9 and 20. united sections and r.to Vprovide .improved @ne ot the detachable bolts used iii connicans to detachably connectthe sections with nectinglf the sections with the trames is "5 inch other so that one or more sections, or shown in llig. 3 and will now be described. the entire plank may be used, as may be The bolt comprises a cylindrical body most convenient. i having' a longitudinal slot 27, an outwardly The 'invention is illustrated in the accoinextended part 2S and a handle 29. A partying drawings, to which reference is washer 3() is :tree to slide on the reduced part hereoy made and will now be described in .fi spring- 3l coiled around the part 28 detail and the noi'el tentures thereof will be acts to normally keep the washer 3() in conrecited in the c airn. tact with the side bar oit the traine but Figure 1l is a perspective 'View o't a coinyields to permit the holt to slide inwardly plete sectional plant: embodying;` my inventhrough the washer. ii lever 3l. adapted tion; Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view to enter the slot 2T turns on a pivot 32 and ol one ot the connecting trames; Fig. 3 is has at one end a head of the saine diamea greatly enlarged perspective view et one of ter as the body of the bolt. the bolts used to connect the plank tions To assemble the part-s a traine will be "h the trames and lP l to i3 inclusive placed at each end o-l' the rent-ral section Lio illustrate various arrangements ol. the plank in such position that the ends ot the sections sections and trait-.ies relatively to each other. will lie under the central line of the respecrthe saine ielference numerals designate the tive plates Q3 and the holes Qif through the saine parts in all the views. har Y1.8 will be line with the transverse l have shown and will descrihe a se'ltional holes through the section. To apply the i5 plznl; comprising;r a 9-tt. central se in l5. holts 25, the lever 3l will be rotated on the and right and lett -l-tt. terminal sections i6 pivot 3Q to cause the lever to occupy the and li: making; the entire length ot the lslot 27. The bolt will then be inserted and planlr` in this instance l5-'t't. A il? .t. sec pushed through the holes 24C in the barsl tional plank is comparatively easy to trans jlt, and through the transyerse holes in the port and is ot sutlicient length for ordinary section and will be slid in the holes until use; it is to be understood, however. that the slotted part of the bolt proyects beyond sectional planks comprising sections ot other the remote bar 18 and the bolt will be roand ditterent lengths, may be used without lated to such position that the lever 3l will departure 'trom niy invention.. lie at right angles to the body of the b olt The sections io, itl and i? are ot tough, and upon releasing,- the handle 29 the spring it lniown that fl. ,linwiinn nonnen, a "n ot the United States, residing at fi'ield, in the county of Sanguineti and straight grain soft wood and have trans- `"ei'se holes ll extending through the sections to receive the connecting bolts.
Iron straps Q6 lined on the edges ot' that pari' ot' each sec'ion which enters the connecting traine reinforce the sections so that will act to slide the bolt reversely to its iirst movement so that the member` 31 will bear against the outer Jface of the remote bar 18 to preventaccidental withdrawal of the bolt. When it is desired to retractthe bolt, the handle 29 will be used to Slide the boli inwardly until the slot 27 is beyond the remote bar 18, the member 31 will be rotated on its pivot by hand until the member enters the slot 27 and the handle 29 will then be used to completely withdraw the bolt from the frame.
When a frame has been attached at each i end o'f the central section, the respective sections 1G and 17 will be inserted through the opening 21 between 4the cross-bars 19 and 2O and pushed inward until the inner end of each section abuts against the adjacent end of the central section which is under the Y transverse plate 23, and a bolt 25 will be inserted through each end section to securely connect the end sections with the (gent-ral sections.
The possible arrangements and variations of length which may be attained with a single 3 to 13 inclusive.

Fig. 8 comprises two B-t. sections plus one foot of length of a frame, making the tot-al lengthrof the plank T-t. Fig. 9 shows a plain central section 9-tt. in length; Fig. 1() shows a 9-ft. Section plus one foot extension of the frame, making the section unit are shown in Figs. Ll'
total length 10-ft. Fig. 11 yshows a 9t. section plus two one foot sections, one at each end, making 'the total length ll-ft. Fig. 12 shows a B-ft. section united with a S-ft. section making the total length 12-1t. Fig. 13 shows a S-ft. section united to a 9-i't. section plus one toot frame extension at one'end of the 9-ft. section, making the total length 15S-itt. and Fig. 1 shows two B-tt. sections united to one 9-tt. section making the total length 15-ft.
am aware of the prior use of sectional paper-hangers planks. I therefore do not claim the sectional construction broadly.
Having fully described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A. section-uniting metal trame for paper hangers planks7 said trame comprising perforated parallel sider barsga relatively wide plate extending around the cent al part of beth side bars and permanently attached thereto; upper transverse bars and lower transverse bars permanently attached to said side bars adjacent to the ends thereof and removable bolts extending through both side bars; in combination with re-enforced plank sections entered between said upper and low'- er transverse bars at each end of the frame and abutting against each other betvv'een the upper and lower members of said transverse plate and secured byrsaid removable bolts.
n witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name at Springeld, Sangamon County,
Illinois, this 2d day of July, 1921.
EDVARD SCHULER.
Vitnesses Y Y G. W. MURRAY, v J. W. DODD.
