Application filed August 2, 1921.
To all whom t 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN' J. LEARY, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Glenside, in the county of Montgomery and Stateof Pennsylvania, have invented new and improved Hat Protectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
This invention relates to a garment protector, and has particular reference to a protector or cover for hats. f
An object of the invention is to provide a simple, economical and efficient covering or protector for hats or garments whereby they r. can be very simply and easily stored away in any suitable space to be .protected from dust and dirt while not "in use. l
Another object resides in the provision of a protector which can be made in large numbers, preferably by machinery, at very low cost so that they can be sold to the public at a correspondingly low ligure.
A further object resides in the provision of means whereby the Agarment is not only eiiiciently stored within the protector but is also firmly supported .within the protector.
A still further object resides in the par# ticular construction and arrangement of parts which are hereinafter described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings. v'
The invention is illustrated in the drawings, of which- Figure l is a front elevation of the device; and f Vl3`igure 2 is a vertical section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
As shown in the'drawings, the preferred embodiment of my invention comprises a protector or container which may be made of paper, cloth, rubber or metalyor any other suitable fabric. This container 'comprises a rear surface lof fabric,'preferablyiiat, and a front surface 2 which is ared out' from the rear surface. to formy therebetween space for the garment, which in this case is shown as a hat 3. The edges of the 'two secl.
tions l and 2 arey joined together along abutting portions in any suitable manner, but theirv lower edges are detachable to provide an opening through which theliat may be ferent material.

inserted. The lowerl edge of the V rear por--l tion can be bent up in thel form of a fiap 4i l provided with any suitable Yfastening means, such as 5, which is shown as a snap fastener,
within the container it can be collapsed and folded up in any suitable manner to be carried or stored in a smallspace.
Extending from the upper `edge of the containertl provide a tab or reinforcing strip 7 which may be in the form of some eX- tra heavy material, suchl as cloth or canvas,
which is at its outer end provided'with' a slot or aperture 8, adapting the containerv to be hun@ over vany suitable support such as a pin or iook E).v Tt is, ofcourse, understood that this strip 7 can be made integral with the material of the bag Vor container instead to adapt itto be engaged withv the lower; edge .6 ofthe flared portion 2. It willv be undery stoodv that when the garment oir hat is'not of being constructedseparately and of dif-- Y This tab 7 preferably, although not necessarily, is integrally extended to a pointV considerab'ly within the container, and theiower end of this integral extension of the tab-'7 is provided with a `pegor pin'lO. `As vshown in Fig. 2, this pin or peg l0 isfirmlycon@ nected to the lower end of the tab 7 by means of a rivet or nail ll. Of course, itis understood that anyrothersuitable means for fas.- tening the peg lO to the tab 7 can be adopted and still be within the scope of my invention.
The tab 7 may be connected or fastened to n the container at thev pointwhere it passes therethrough by any suitableiineans, such as glue or cement, or by being'sewed thereto, although the particularmethod of fastening is not shown since itdoes notfform'an-es- Y sential part of the invention. It will, therefore, be observedv that l have l provided in an integralmember fnfieansfor fastening or hanging the container to aY w suitable support and means connected thereto within the container for supporting a garnient or Vhat therein. The hat can be readily slipped up Awithin theV container and sup- `f. Ported bythelieg 10, whereupon the lower.r 100 flap l isfastened Vvtoclosethe Vbag or conV vtainer, which can then be hung up in a closet other suitable'storage space.Y g
