FAUCET tame. o,

To'rzZZ v'vhom 1 it ma concern .5
Be it known that I, CHARLES WV..K00H,
a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucet Valves, of which the following is a specifi cation. i 7
The main object of this invention is th provision of a faucet the outlet end of which normally lies flush with the body to which it is attached, adapted to be opened to permit flow of liquid by drawing thev faucet" outward from the body, and" upon beingfi released is automatically drawn into-the body, thus shutting off the fiow of liquid. 7
Another object is to provide a faucet that upon being opened the proper distance, will mix the-discharge of hot and cold water teed pipes before leaving the valve.
A still further object is toprovide' afaw cet valve capable of being mounted in a} barrel, which will not protrude from the side and therefore-not have to be detached when the barrel is rolled.
These and other objects will become ap parent in the description below, in'which similar characters oflreterenceref th like-named parts in the drawing;
, Referring briefly to thej'drawing, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional viewthru the valve, the latter being 'inclosed position,
Figure 2 is a front elevational view" of Figure 1, showingthe'fingergrlp operat-f mg a means. 7 r
Figure 3 is a longitudinalsectional View;
similar to Figure 1, showing the valve in open position.
, Figure' l is a cross-sectional view -taken'on the line Hot Figure 3. I
. Figure 5 is a top plan viewer the slidable mixing chamberi i Describing the drawing in detaiL thenumeral 10 indicates a wall to which; is secured an annular flange 11, forming partcof the main tubular body 12 of thejmixingvalve, Said tubular body is" by the bolts 13. mounted within the region of thefwall 'so that the entire device remains'concealed.
off from the mainwater lines, the pipe 14 '14 communicating ,withboiler.
7 position. 5
Threaded holes formed'inthe wall of the Y tubular body 12, substantially central of itsi-f length, receive the ends of externally threaded pipes 14 and 14*, which are tapped 192 2." seriai'n iseazvs.
- The 'bore 15=iormed in the body 12 px tends partly thru its lengthy-and connects with a larger annular opening 16 to slidably receive a tubular valve 17, provided with a ,downwardly extending mouth 18 i and a finger grip 19. A gu de key20, formed lonr kgitudinall'y on the valve 17, sl1des with the valve in .a corresponding keyway in the ma1n body12land prevents the valve from being rotated; The valve end opposite to the mouth is enclosedby a wall 21 to which an annular plate 22 ls secured by the screw" .1 7o V v V 2,3. A compressionspring 24 encircling the valve, between the plate 22 andvthe bottom or -opening 16, norrnally retains thevalve in retracted position; A slot25, inthe wall of the valve ne'aruthe enclosed end alinesswith the pipes Handle and'is of a'zleng'th' suited to receive the dischargeof both of said pipes; Figure 1- illustrates the closed position of inthe wall iO'so the mouthlS willfnot projecttherefrom, As previusly; stated-,ithe flange 1 ee the tubular valve'is to be openedthe slide valve the'val ve in which thecurved mouth end 18) :7 j l rests in a conically shaped hollow'26 formed? main bodyi is preferablysecured to} a; wall andthe'pipes 14ciand14 are connected 1 to it in the manner described 'lVhen the I i's'extended', by pulling on the finger grip'19 I until thejslot2i5 registers with either of the pipes 14 or 14?. When the cold water is??- -desiredftheslide valve is extended to its I greatest lengthso' that the slot 2 5 registers' with; thepi-pe14 only. Obviously, it ,hot j water,-or water of various temperatures are 1 desired, the slide valveis'manipulated so r a that' pipe 14E registers with the slot 25 or both pipes register therewith, in which event proportionate mixture of coldand hot Water isobtained the movement of the valve 1 I {being limited by the stop plate 22; a Q "When the lingerrgrip is released, the slide valve will immediately be retracted by the spring 24; ,thus'shu tting oil the fiowfand bringing the faucet back to normal, closed pipe openings intermediate the lengthfot the V o comprising a tubularbody having a -flanged end, longitudinally, aligned slidable in the bore of said body and having a longitudinal slot, said slot being aligned With the opening in said body, said slot normally resting rearward of said openings and closing the latter, a spring Wound upon the rear end of said valve and housed in the enlarged opening of the body, a plate mounted on the rear end of the valve ine1nber and adapted to retain said spring in a place, a downwardly extending mouth at the forward end of said valve, the slot in 7 said valve when aligned with the openings in the body being adapted to permit full or fraetional communication between the passage of the valve and the body openings \vl1en"saicl='valve is urged outwardly, said spring being adapted to slide said valve slot rearward to close said openings, and means i CHARLES W. KooH.
