ATTACHMENT non narrrrnns.
Application filed Ii'iay 26, 1922. SerialNo. 563,820.
ToizZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VV'irLiAM 0. Portrait, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Attachments for Bathtubs, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to a supporting de vice to be mounted upon a bath tub, and
serving to hold a clothes wringer.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which may be conveniently placed in position upon and within a bath tub, and subsequently clamped to the bath tub and hence adapted to serve as a rigid support for a clothes wringer. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a device. of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction,
strong and durable.
Other objects'and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a supporting device embodying my invention,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section,
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken directly in front of and looking towards the feed wheel and actuating lever.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail section through the feed wheel and associated elements.
Fig. 6 is a detail view of the feed wheel hub supporting plate.
In the drawings, wherein for the. purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 and 6 designate adjustable support sections, constituting the body portion of the support. The support section 6 embodies spaced parallel bars 7, which are rigidly secured together by transverse straps 8, 9 and 10, while any other suitable means may be employed, if desired. The straplO is secured to the extreme ends of the bar 7 and carry knobs 11, preferably formed of rubber. The strap 10 is bent inwardly between the ends of the bars 7, forming a U-shaped portion 12, and this U-shaped portion has its ends apertured for pivotally receiving the ends of an approximately U-shaped suspension hook 13,
'which is preferably resilient. The support straps 16 and progecting inwardly beyond the bars 1 1 and slidably mounted between the bars 7. The inner bar 19 has a pair of transverse guide plates 20 rigidly secured to its inner end, upon opposite sides thereof. These guide plates slidably contact with the opposite faces of the bar 7 and operate'between the transverse straps 8 and 9, as shown.
The numeral 21 designates a feed screw, extending longitudinally between the bars 7 and rigidly connected with the inner end of the inner bar 19 by any suitable means. The numeral 22 designates a feed wheel, having a tubular hub 23, interiorly screw- .threaded to engage upon the feed screw 21.
The feed wheel is free to rotate but cannot move longitudinally perceptibly, and for this purpose it is rotatably mounted within openings 241, formed in plates 24: formed in tegral with the upper strap 9. The wheel 22 slidably engages one plate 24 while a flange 25 upon the opposite end of the tubular hub slidably engages the end 26 of a lever 27, this end engaging the other plate 2%.
The lever 27 has a double ended pall 28 pivoted thereto, either end of s which is adapted to be thrown into engagement with the teeth 29 of the wheel 22. It is thus seen that the lever may be oscillated to turn the feed wheel in opposite directions.
The numeral 30 designates an attaching bar, arranged above the bars 7 and rigidly secured thereto by straps 31 or the like. The attaching bar 30 has frame members 32 of the wringer clamped thereto, as shown in Fig. 1.
In the use of the device, the lever 27 is operated with the pall 28 shifted in the desired direction, to bring the support section the body portion of the device is suitably contracted so that it may be readily inserted Within the tub. /Vhenapplied tothe tub, the suspension ho0ks l3 and 18 engage over the top ed es of the tub and hence hold the device in p ace, prior to the clamping action. The lever and pall 28 are now properly actuated to expand the body portion, the support section 5 moving longitudinally away from the support section 6, whereby the .knobs 11 and 16, which are suitably yielding,
have clamping engagement with the inner walls of the tub. This clamping engagement serves to rigidly lock the device to the tub, against the downward weight. It is obvious that the clothes wringer maybe employed in the usual manner to wring the clothes, which may be washed in the bath tub. The clothes Wringer may be readily removed from the attaching bar 30, as is obvious. V
' It is to be understood thatthe form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a prefered example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts maybe resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, orthe scope of the sub- .joined claims. Having thus described my invention, I claim: l
1. A device adapted to be applied to a tub and serving to support a clotheswringer,
with relation to the othersupport section,-
suspension hooks secured to the outer ends of the support sections and-adapted to en gage over the top edges of the tub, and an attaching bar arranged above one support section and secured thereto, said attaching I bar being adapted to have the clothes wringeri clamped thereon.
2. A device adapted to v V tub and serving to support a clothes 'wringer, comprising a body portion embodying a be applied to a:
plurality of sections having slid-able engagement with each other whereby one section may be moved longitudinally with relation to the other section, compression elements carried by the ends of said sectionsto engage With the inner walls preheat, sus-T pension elements secured to the ends'of said sections to engage over the top of the.tub,}a
feed screw secured to the innerencl of one screw and held in placeup on the other section, and means toturn the feed when."
In testimony whereof I a, my signature. i
