To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN L. GOLDBEOK, acitizen of the United 'States,.residing at Tyler, in the county of: Smith and State of Texas, have invented'a new and useful Track Tool, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to track layers tools, the primary object of the invention 1 being to provide means to beatta-ched and supported by a track gauge, for moving ties under rails to accomplish the positioning or replacing thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be operated to slide a tie from its position under railway rails, eliminating the necessity of removing the roadoballast on the removal of atie.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combi nation and arrangment of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Figure 1 is an elevational view disclosing a track gauge as positioned between the rails of a track.

Figure 4: is an elevational view disclosing the tie moving means as positioned on the predetermined openings of the body portion gauge. Figure 5 is a plan view thereof.

Figure 7 is a detail view. 7 Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates rails of a track, to which the gauge which is indicated generally by the reference character 6, 1S applied, to regulate the distance between the rails. This gauge is formed with angular portions 7 terminating in rail engaging arms 8, the angular portions 7 being spaced apart as clearly shown by F i 'ure 2 of the drawings, and connected as by means of the bar 9, which may be formed integral therewith.
These arms 8 are formed with cut out portions providing shoulders 10 designed to engage the inner surfaces of the tread of the rail. Pairs of openings indicated at 11 are formed throughout the length of the body portion of the gauge, the body portion of the g'auge being indicated at 12. r The attachment forming the essence of theinvention embodies a pair ofspaced arms 13 formed with openings 14 adapted to accommodate the pintles 15 formed on the carriage 16, which carriage embodies depending side walls 17 and an upper wall 18. This carriage also includes depending spaced fingers 19 of diameters equal to the 7 diameters of the openings 11, the fingers being designed to fit within the openings. to secure the carriage to the body portion and restrict movement thereof when the device is put into operation.
At the upperends of the arms 13, is formed a socket member 20 adapted to receive an operating bar not shown, whereby a person may move the operating bar to accomplish the movement of the arms 13 in the opposite direction. As shown, the lower ends of the arms'13 are provided with heads 21-, which heads accommodate the link members 22 employed for connecting the pivoted hookmembers 23 to the arms. These hook members are pivotally connected as at 2% eand have their free ends tapered toprovide piercing extremities 25 designed to bite into a tie or log being moved.
From the foregoing it will be seen that if it is desired to move a tie, it is only necessary to place the gauge on the rails of a track andv position the fingers 19 within n o The piercing ends 25 are now forced into the tie and the arms may now be moved to cause the tie to be slid from its position under the rails; r 7 Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 2+ 1. In a tool of the'class described, a body portion-having pairs of openings formed v throughout the length thereof, a carriage 'posltioned on the body portion and having 5 fingers adapted to be positioned within the openings to secure the carriage against movement, a pair of arms pivotallysupported on the carriage, and pivoted tie engaging arms having connection with the1 0 I pair of arms, whereby the pivoted tie engaging arms mzy be operated.
2. In a tool of the class described, portion, the body portion, a pair of pivoted arms on the carriage and having their lower ends disposed under the body portion, tie engaging arms, and means forconnecting the tie engaging arms to the pair of pivoted arms.
3. In a tool of the class described, a body portion having openings, a carriage having fingers adapted to be positioned in the openings to adjustably support the carriage on the body portion, a pair of tie engaging arms, operating means for connecting the tie engaging arms to the carriage, and' said operating means adapted to be moved to a body an adjustable carriage mounted on' move the tie engaging arms longitudinally of the body portion.
4. Ina tool of the class described, a body portion, a carriage adjustably supported on the body portion, a pair of pivoted arms mounted on the carriage and having heads at the lower ends thereof, a pair of pivoted tie engaging arms, and means for removably securing the tie engaging arms to the first mentioned arms.
