Description
E. R. CHATTERLEY FEED BAG FASTENER Filed Sent. 25. 1922 assess a. CHATTERLEY, or Trimaran, oers mixers.
FEED-BAG messa e.
Application filed September 25, 1922. Serial No. 590,557.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it knownthat I, ERNEST R. CHATTER- LEY, a citizen of the United'States, residing at F landreau, inthe county of Moody and State of South Dakota,'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed- Bag F asteners, of which the following is a specification. V r
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in feed bag fasteners, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a fastener which is carried by the bridle of the harness and which not only holds the bag securely onto the head of the horse, but which also renders it impossible for the horse to cause the fastener to-be caught in his own harness or that of another therebyeliminating'the source of runaways due to this cause with use of fasteners of the type commonly employed.
The invention further aims to provide a fastener which can be economically produced and one which is devoid of all moving parts or ones which can be caught in the harness or otherwise. 7 I .The invention also aims to provide a fastener which can be easily and quickly manipulated in attaching and detaching the bag.
The invention has still further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description. V
V In the.drawings:
Figure 1, is a front elevation of the invention- Figure 2, is a side elevation, and
Figure 3, is a top plan view.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, the fastener embodies a horizontal top bar 1, having integral inwardly extending end parts 2, the whole forming an outwardly extending U-shaped member or loop as illustrated in Figure 3. The parts 2 are extended downwardly at 4 and then horizontally t 5, crossing each other at 6 and are then again extended downwardly at 7 and inwardly to lie in juxtaposition and are finally extended upwardly in parallelism as indicated at 8.
'The parallel parts 8 are spaced apart and termediate in outwardly inclined free terminals 9, the latter being disposed in approximate vertical alinement with the top bar 1.
In use of the invention, one of the fasconnected to the sides and teners is secured to each of the side straps of the bridle by the top bar 1, and-the holdmg or supporting strap of the feed bag :held by'the parts 8, 8 which latter provide may be stamped out of sheet metal and shaped to the form depicted in the drawings.
What is claimed is 1. In a feed bag fastener, a member having a substantially Ushaped horizontal top part provided with depending portions which latter are extended inwardly and horizontally and cross each other and are then extended downwardly and contracted and finally extend vertically and upwardly and have outwardly inclined terminals which latter are in approximate register with the outer member of the U-shaped top part.
2. In afeed bag fastener, a wire member formed intermediate its ends with a horizontal top part and with depending side portions which latter are extended inwardly in intersecting relation and then extended downwardly and upwardly to form hooks, the free ends of the wire underlying the horizontal top part'so as to be protected thereby.
3. In a feed bag fastener, a body having a forwardly extending U-shaped loop open at its rear and located adjacent to the up per end of the body, a transverse support ing member for the body located below the loop, and a hook extending upwardly from the lower end of the body and extending across the transverse member and terminating below the loop and in approximate register therewith so as to be protected thereby.
4:. In a feed bag fastener, a wire member having a horizontal loop at its upper end, sides connected to the loop, a transverse supporting member located below the loop and V hook like part connected to the sides and extending upwardly from the lower end of the body, and across said transverse part and terminating below the loop and in substantial register therewith so as to be protected thereby.
5. In a feed bag fastener, a body having a horizontally disposodprotecting loop prowont said means fromucatohing,in' the har-x v 'r 1ect1ng; thereirom, means to support 51 e, ness of the wearer or the harness of an adbodv from a 32111, of the harness and feed "meant-horse. 1
