PATENT @FFECE Application iledl July 2,
To all whom 'it man] concem:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. KILLION,
a citizen of the United States, residing at 1628 Prairie Avenue, Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Containers, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to containers and is fully described in the following specif`1. cation and shown in the accompanying.
drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan vlew of the container, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, Fig.- 3 is a partial section on the line 3 of Fig. 2, Fig. 4 is a partial perspective of the edge of the barrel showing the edges to be joined, Fig. 5 is a partial perspective of the closin member and Fig. 6 is a partial section on t e line 6 of Fig. 2.
The barrel 10 of this container consists of a sheet of metal, fibre board or other suitable material bent into the form of a cyl'- inder and having edges meeting upon a longitudinal line, said edges being bent back to form reversely extending lips 11 as shown in Fig. 4.
.The closing member 12, having a longitudinal opening 13, is adapted to slide endwise over the lips 11 so "as to retain them against separation and against lateral movement. An ear 14 is formed on the end of this member which may be bent over the '1921. seriai no. 482,022.'
The present invention is concerned only with so much of the foregoing structure as relates to the means for forming a closing c5 on the barrel l0, the means for retaining the head upon the barrel being covered by my accompanying application, Serial No. 482,022, fled July 2, 1921.
While I have shown and described but a single embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes ltherefore in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly aspossible in view of the prior art.
What I claim as new and desire to se- @0 cure by Letters` Patent, is:
1. lin a container, a hollow barrel formed from a sheet, the endslof the sheet meeting on a longitudinal line, said ends reversely facing from said line, a member slidable longitudinally over said ends, the ends of said barrel being substantially cylindrical, a head for said container and means for retaining the head therein including an in. tegral flange passing over'the edge of said 70 barrel, said flange retainingsaid member against endwise movement.
2. ln a container, a hollow barrel formed from a sheet, the ends of the sheet meeting end of the barrel, as shownin Fig. 6, to\\on a longitudinal line, said ends reverselv retain it thereon.
A head 15 lies within the barrel 10 and has an angular Harige 16 which passes around and over the outer edge of the barrel. Thisl head may be retained in the barrel by means of tongues 17 which are pressed inwardly from portions of the Harige an barrel, and each of sucient stiness to retain the head on the barrel.
facing from said line, a member slidable longitudinally over said ends, a headfor said container and means `for retaining the head therein including a flange integral witho said head passing over the edge of said-8O barrel, said flange enclosing the end of said member so as to retain it against endwise movement.
