SIGNPOST.
Application led November 8, 1821. Serialli'o. 513,753.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that 1, BERNARD A. BELLING, a citizen of the United States, and'resident of Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signposts; and I do herebv declare" that the vfollowing yis a full7 clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates t0 a new and improved signpost which is articularly adapted to be used in front of farm dwellings for supporting a mail box, advertising signs, and the like.
One of the objects of the-invention is genorally to improve the structure of this class of devices and particularly the means by which the various articles are supported.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for securely mounting the device and also to protect the same against deterioration from corrosion and the like.
1n the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my device.
Figure 2 is a detail view of the lower'end of the post which extends into the ground.
Figure ,3 is a sectional plan view on the lineB-Sof 7Figure 1.
' Figure 4 is a front elevational view of a 3o modified form of the invention, and
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of another modification.
The invention comprises a post 4lformed preferably of seamless steel tubing and having its upper end bent laterally in the shape of an inverted U. A number of clamps are applied to this U shaped portion to support a sign board 4. An advertising sign 5 may also be supported by means of the links 6.
A bracket 7 is attached tothe post intermediately of its height and is provided with ears 8 to which a mailbox 9 may be secured. The ,bearing surface of the bracket which is preferably in the form of a fork as shown is extended to form a clamp l0 which is se- Vcured -to the post. Downwardly inclined braces 11 extend from the bracket and at their ends are provided with a second clamp 12 in vertical registration vwith clamp 10.
. reinforcing member 13 -is also provided which extends vertically between the two clamps. rllhe lower portion of the lpost which enters the ground is provided with a split bearing 14 which is secured by means of rivets 15 or the like passed throughlaterally projectinganchorlng` ears. This bearing sleeve is made from comparatively noncorrosive material and is provided with a beveled upper end 16 which extends above the surface ofthe round in order to shed water from aroun the' base of the post. The post is preferably set in concrete 17 as shown and the lower end of the tubing may be provided with a'cap 18 to prevent the wet concrete from oozing intothe tubing before it becomes set.v
In the modified form of the invention as shown in Figure 4, the upper portion of the post 1 is bent into the shape of a circle 2 with the sign board l4a conforming in shape thereto. The brackets 7 which supports the mail box 9- may also be clamped'to the post as shown at 19 and the braces may be omitted.
ln the form shown in Figure 5 the upper portion of the post is bent in the form of a semicircle 2" which receives the sign board 4a and the extremityof the post is extended downwardly as at 20 andsupports 'the mail box 9.
It will also be apparent that other modivpermanently spacing said sign board from said bent portion. In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Beaver Dam,
in the county of Dodge and State of Wis-- consin.
BERNARD A. BELLING.
