IMPROVEMENT IN DENTAL lMPRESSlON-CUPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,587, dated January 20, 1874; application filed December 6, 1873. i
sponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved cup or tray for taking impressions for dental plates, which shall be so constructed as to allow direct manipulative pressure to be applied to the soft parts of the roof of the mouth after the ordinary pressure has been applied, so that the dental plates, when cast or otherwise made, may press upon the soft parts of the arch of the mouth rather than upon the hard parts, as they must do when the impression is taken with the ordinary impressiontray, thus distributing the pressure, and securing a better fit and a more effective atmospheric plate. The invention consists in an impression-cup that is provided with a flexible lining on the inside, and with cut-outs or apertures that expose the ascending sides of the alveolar arch and allow of direct lateral manipulation.
A represents the impression tray or cup, which is made of hard rubber or other suitable material, and in the general form of ordinary impression-trays. In the body of the tray A, over the soft parts of the arch of the month, are formed openings B, through which direct manipulative pressure may be applied. In case some teeth remain in the jaw, openings may be formed in the plate A directly opposite said teeth, so that they may press directly upon the cover 0 and project through said openings. 0 is a fioor or cover placed in the tray A above and covering its perforated bottom or floor, and secured at its edges to the edges of the tray A. The floor or cover 0 may be made of muslin, canvas, soft leather, or other suitable material that will allow manipulative pressure to be applied through the openings B. Upon the under sides of the cap A are formed support-s D designed for use in GEORGE SHINDLER FOUKE.
