IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR SETTING UP STAVES lN BARRELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,537, dated January 20, 1874; application filed December 27, 1873.
State of 'Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Setting up Staves in Barrels and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this Specification.
My invention relates to improvements in machines for forming barrels, kegs, and buckets.
In the drawing is represented a perspective view of the invention.
My invention consists in certain combinations and arrangements of devices, as hereinafter set forth and claimed, in which- A represents a table on which Ways 0 C are secured. B B are heads-the one, B, movable and the other. B, Stationary. These heads .consist of encircling rims B B, and interior rings E. The ring B has an opening, b, inthe D is an adjustable gage-bar. Attached to across-bar,
f are straps or clamps F. Gis a stop.
The stave-s are placed in the openings 6 in i the heads B B, resting on the rings E,said
rings forming the size at the ends of the barrel, keg, or bucket. When said rings are filled with the staves, the straps F F are brought around them, and, securely clamping them together, the head B is-then drawn back sufficiently far to admit of a truss hoop being driven on. The clamps or straps F F are then removed, the keg 01' barrel removed from the head B, another truss-hoop driven on, and the keg is ready to be worked oh, the length-of the barrel, keg, or bucket being regulated by the gage-bar D.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- I 1. The combination of the stationary recessed head B E 6, with the adjustable Sll(ling head B E e, substantially as and for the purposes set forth and shown.
2. In combination with the slidingheadB E e, the adjustable Stop D, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The combination of the stationary head B, sliding head B, stops D, and clampingstraps F, all arranged, combined, and operating substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of December, 1873.
we S. LEWI Witnesses:
H. HAYNE, H. You THAREN.
