Description

PATENT OrTroEo GEORGE L. ORANDAL, OF 4BlNGrlIAM'lON7 NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENI'NGS FOR CARRIAGE-CURTAINS.
Specification forming 'part of Letters Patent' No. 146,514, dated January 20, 1874 application ilcd October 8, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEoEGE L. CEANDAL, of Binghamton, New York, have invented a Fastening for Carriage-Curtains and other similar uses7 of which the following is a specication:
The object of this invention is to furnish a strap-and-buckle attachment for fastening the `sides of carriage-curtains, which is cheap, y strong, and easily put on.
This I accomplish by fastening thebuckle `to a metal plate, Figure. l, and the strap to a similar plate, Fig. 2. The buckle is fastened t-o plate, Fig. l, by leaving a projection, a, through which a suitable hole, b, is punched to receive the tongue f ot' the buckle, and the projecting part is then bent back under the plate, as at Fig. 3. It may then be soldered or fastened With a rivet, it' necessary. The strap g is attached to plate, Fig. 2, by means of teeth c, which are cut out on two sides, turned up,
and passed through the leather strap, and clinched down, as shown in Fig. 5. The strap and buckle are then fastened to the curtain and quarter of the carriage-top by means of a metallic sheath, Fig. 4, on which teeth d are formed, exactly fitting holes e. (Shown in plates, Figs. l and 2.) The teeth are passed through the holes, and then through the curtain, and clinched down on the back side. The sheath I make of heavy material, with sharp-pointed teeth, which may be forced through the curtain Without first making holes. Fig. 6 shows the Whole as attached to a curtain. Fig. 7 is a sectional View of the same;
I claim as my invention- The combination of a sheath With the plate having the teeth c, substantially as 'and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of the plate having the teeth c and perforations e, and its sheath,with the buckle-plate and its sheath, substantially as and for the purpose described.
GEO. L.' CRANDAL.
