Application filed @ctober it, 1922. Serial No.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that it, Annixiir A. Knownns, residing at Canyon Ferry, in the county of Lewis and Clarke and State of ltilontana, a citizen oi? the United titates, have invented. certain new and useful .lniprorenients in Sleigh Runners; and .i do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en able others skilled in the art to which it ertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in sleigh runners, and more particularly to runners for use on motor sleighs.
The object of the inventioti is to provide the runners with means tor preventing the skidding or lateral sliding 01 the same which has in the past been responsible tor many accidents which have caused injuries and some times deaths it :turther object, is to provide the runners of a slei h with means for preveu tin ,g' skirt ding which is simple, inexpensive, and durable in. construction, easy to apply, and does not change the general design or shape of the runners.
The invention consists in the several features and in the construction, combination of such features as more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the draivings:-
l ig. 1 is a side elevation of a runner made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 ot Figure l on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 3 is a similar view to Figure 2 with. the parts separated or disseinhled.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4(4 of ure 3.
in the drawings in which similar reference characters denote similar parts throughout the several views, 1 represents a runner, constructed in accordance with my invention, provided with a central vertical part 2, two similar shaped lateral parts 3 each provided with an upwardy extending vertical flange 4 on its inner edge, a horizontal substantially nnnnnn.
flat flangefi at its outer edge and a downrardly and inwardly curved part extending from the inner portion or the flange 5 to the lower portion oi? the flange 2.
Each of the flanges 22, and the central vertical part 2 have a slot and a series oi bolt holes 6 respectively to receive bolts 7 to pro 'vide means tor vertically adjusting the part 2 with relation to the parts 3 when it is dc sired to have the part 2 depend, more or less, below or beyond the under surface oi the parts 'ljhe part 2 entends, preferably, from the point 8 to point 9 as that portion of the runner is generally in direct contact with the snow or ice between those points, but it found desirable the part 2 could be made longer.
'l. he several parts of the runner are made of pressed steel but any other n'iaterial may be used.
1 do not Wish to he understood as limiting myself to the specific.details of construction and rrangenient as herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the teatures of construction and arrangement, the adaptation of the device to various con ditions of use, without departing); troni the spirit and scope oi my invention and improvenients. 1 therefore reserve the. right to all such variations and modifications as properly fall Within the scope of my invention and the terms of the following claim.
What l c airn is It sleigh runner consisting of separate lateral parts each havingan upwardly extending flange, a Wide upwardly curved portion terininatiiiig in a horizontal portion and vertical part located betiven said lillfiiil'lilt' extending fltlilgii and secured thereto, in such manner that they may be adjusted vertically with relation thereto, and projecting beloiv said lateral parts. V f
ltn testimony whereof l have allixed my signature.
