Application filed March 11,
.To aZZ w ham 'it may Gomera Be it known that l, Janne A. Rose, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Halifax., in the county of l-ialifax and Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in a Game. of which the following is a. specification. v p
This invention relates to games and more particularly to game boards.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheaply constructed, game board which may be played with interest by both old and young.
Jrnother object is to provide a game which trains both the eyes and the hands of the players.
lWith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear' as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the prec-ise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 represents a plan view of a board embodying this invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken 'on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. 2.
The board 1 constituting` this invention is shown rectangular in form and comprises a bottom 2 having upstanding side. members 3 and end members 4 and 5, the end member' 5 being higher than the member Li. A score board projects inwardly from the upper edge of the end member' 5 and has a depending,` lip 13 at its front edge. This score board 6 is perforated as shown at 8 to receive counters in the form of pins 7.
Mounted on the bottom 2 and extending` from end to end thereof are a. plurality of upstanding partitions 9 spaced laterally apart, three being here shown. These partitions 9 are provided at the front end of the board 1 under the score board by pockets 10 into which the playing pieces are designed to be caught, in a manner presently to be desc-ribed. These partitions 9 in addition to forming the pockets 10 also operate as supports for a false bottom 12 which is 1920. 4Serial Na 364,928.
mounted on the upper ecges of the partitions i and terininates at end at points spaced inwardly from the end members of the board 1. This bottom is' desi'ued to be inclined downwardly from its r to its front end as shown inlilg'. 53 and at its front end terminates below the lip l carried by the score board. the space between which and said false bottom forms entrance mouths to the pockets 10. Un this lip 13 are placed numbers which are designed to indicate the number of points to be given to the player whose ball enters the pocket over which the respective number is a'ranged.
Mounted on the upper face of the false bottom 12 near its rear end is a cleat 14 which extends transversely of said bottoni and is secured between the side members 3 of the board 1 in any suitable manner. This cleat 14; has an aperture 15 extending from face to face thereof midway its ends in which is designed to operate a springr pressed cue or plunger 16. This cue 16 has a handle memlber 17 in the form of a plate with a shoiilder 18 at its front end which is designed to tie rear end edge 19 of the false bottorn 12., as is shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2. This handle mem'bcr ir has longg'itudinally spaced notches 20 in its upper edeje end 10 which are designed to be engza 1. with a coiledspring` 21. This coiled springr 21 is secured at its opposite ends to opposite ends of the cleat lat and exerts its tension to force the cue or plung'er 16 forward when the shoulder 18 thereof is released from the edge 19 of the bottom 12'. A plurality of playing pieces 11 here shown in the form of balls or marbles are designed to be used in playing the game and may be arranje'ed in any suitable or desired manner at the option of the players. As shown, one of the pieces is positioned in alinement with the plunger 16 and sulficiently close to the cleat 15 so that when the plunger is released it will strike the piece 11 and project it forwardly. In alinement with the ball 11 a plurality of balls 11a. three being' here shown arranged in a t-riangle so that when the ball 11 strikes one of them the others will diverge and all of the balls will enter the poclrets 11 at the end of the board if the playe-is object is accomplished. The numbers arranged over the poclzets will indicate the points to be credited to the player. After these balls enter the poclzets 10 by tilting` the board rearwardly they may be caused to pass to the rear end thereof and be removed ready for use again.
From the foregoing` description, taken in connection with the accornpanying lraw ings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation Will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which l now consider to be the best embodilnent thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is inerely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.
` Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A game. of the class described comprising a board having pockets at one end, a false bottom spaced above the main bottom of said board and termnatng at its ends at points spaced from the ends of the board,
and longitudinally disposed upright partitions extending` the length of the board under the false bottom and forming supports for said botto-m, and pockets at the end of the board.
2. A game of the class described comprsing laboard having pockets at one end, a false bottorn spaced above the main bottom of said board and terminating at its ends at points spaced from the ends of the board, and -longitudinally disposed uprig'ht partitions extending' the length of the board under the false bottoin and forming supports for said bottonn and pockets at the end 'of the board, said false hottom being;r inclined downwardly toward said pockets.
In testimony where-of I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
