d UhlllTED GUSTAVE BABE-IR, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
COLLAPSIBLE I-IOGD OR ROOF OF-VEHICLES.
Application filed March 31, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, GUsTAvn Banrrn, a citizen of the French Republic, and residing in Paris, France, 2, Rue des Sablons, mechanical manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Collapsible Hoods or Roots of Vehicles, of which the following is a complete specification.
Devices for mountine: glazed frames intended for use in conjunction with motor cars provided with folding roofs are already known. These frames which are generally constituted by three parts hingedly connected so as to form the lateral surfaces of the motor car when the roof is unfolded, being located in the inoperative position, in a recess formed in the body of the car.
According to the described arrangement, the whole of the glazed frame is simply introduced into the recess so that for putting the things in place it is necessary to raise the whole of these frames, this raising: movement being effected by hand.
The present invention relates to a device for mounting: glazed frames permittiner of I readily bringing: them into either the inoperative or operative position without it be ing necessary to support manually the whole weight of these frames.
In the accompanying drawing which illus trates a constructional form of the invention:
Figure 1 is a partial pers ective View of the motor car showing; the glazed frames arraneed in the recess.
Fi ure 2 is a perspective view taken dur' insr the movement p acing these frames in the operative pos tion.
Figure 3 shows these frames in place before completely unfoldine the device.
Figure 4- shows the .Q'lazed panel in the unfo ded position.
Referring to Figure 1. the panels 22. 23, 24. are located in the ino erative os tion in the recess or chest but in this constructional form. the central panel 23 is provided with hinges 4O pivoting about pins 41 provided on the lateral sides of the said recess or chest so that all the glazed panels can pivot about these pins 41.
The external wall of the chest 25 is constituted by a panel 42 mounted through the Serial No. l57/l67.
hooked in a suitable manner to the frame of the folding" roof, the glazed panels 22 and 2-1- being: then unfolded in order to bring them over the corresponding parts of the body of the carriage. d
In order to bring" the whole arrangement into the inoperative position the glazed panels '22'and 24: are closed upon the central glazed panel 23. all the three panels are then swung about the pins 41 and are brought into the recess 25 after opening the panel The latter panel is close-cl and the carriage is thus converted into an open carrian'e. i
This arrangement permits of rapidly and easily operating the glazed panels without it beino; necessary to lift the device bodily.
The hinges of the panel 42 may be vertical as shown in Figures 1, 2 and l or horizontal as shown in'Fiqure 3 this panel may slide in 'or be otherwise secured to the body of the car.
lVhat I claim ist- In a vehicle of the character described. a body having a recess in the outer face of. its side, a hinsed door for closing the recess, the door when closed beinsr substantiallv flush with the outer face of the body. and three .cjlazed frames hinqcd toeether to fold one upon the other. the middle frame beine' hinged at one end to the upper side ed es of In testimony whereofI have hereunto set my hand.
GUSTAVE BAEHR.
