The invention relates to spouts for cans, and has for its object to provide a device of this character'which ma be easily and quickly attached to a can an easily removed w from the can after the contents has been poured therefrom.
A further object is to provide a can spout comprising a hollow cylindrical member, one end of which is provided with an an- W gularly shaped cutaway portion, thereby vided with oppositely disposed can piercing members having notches for the reception of the edges of the holes formed by the can piercing members upon a partlal rotation of the device.
A further object. is to provide a resilient washer for formin an air tilght joint between the flange and the can w on the spout is attached thereto.
With the above and other ob'ects in view the invention resides in the com ination and to may be made within the scope of what is, clalmed without departing from the spllltf of the invention.

ened lu forced into the cover 8, pierce the cover 8 Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a conventional form of can, for instance a condensed milk can, or a syrup can, from which it is present practice to pour the contents by-punching a hole therein. However where a hole is used forpouring the contentsfronra can, the contents thereof accumulates 'on the can, especially where syrups or condensed milk is being poured, and consequently draw flies and is unsanitary. To obviate this difiiculty the detachable spout 2 is provided, which spout is adapted to be attached to the can and after the contentsthereof have been consumed, the spout is removed and used on another can. It is to be understood that the spout may be used in connection with any kind of a can, and no matter what the contents thereof may be.
The spout 2 comprises a cylindrical member 3, which member is provided with an annular flange 4, soldered or otherwise secured thereto. The annular flange 4 is disposed intermediatethe ends of the spout 2, and has secured thereto by soldering at 5, a handle member-6 adapted to be grasped by the operator for imparting a partial rotation to the spout after the end 7 thereof has been forced through the can cover 8, for forming the round hole 9. The round to the spout 3, the upper end 12 of which terminates adjacent the top 8 of the can, therebyallowing all of the contents of the can to be poured from the can. The annular flange 4 at opposite sides of the cylindrical member 3 is provided with sharp- 13, which lugs when the spout is and form apertures "14 at opposite sides of the aperture 9. The sharpened lugs 13 adjacent their inner ends are provided with recesses 14, which recesses upon a partial rotation of the spout. as a whole receive the ends 15 of the apertures 14 and securely hold the spout in osition on the can. However to prevent eak around the spout, a washer 16 is provi ed, which washer is com ressed when the spout is forced downwa 'ly. and partially rotated, consequently an airtight connectionis formed between the spout and can cover.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. The combination with the wall of a can, of a removable spout therefor, said spout comprising a hollow cylindrical member having its ends open, one end of the hollow cylindrical member being cutaway at an angle, thereby forming inclined cutting edges adapted to form a hole in the can wall when forced therethrough, an annular flange carried by the cylindrical member, piercin lugs carried by the flange at opposite si es of the cylindrical member and provided with notches for the reception of the end walls of apertures formed by'the members upon a partial rotation of the cylindrical member.
2. A detachable spout for a can, saidspout comprising a cylindrical member having a chamber extending entirely therethrough, one end of the cylindrical member being cutaway at an angle, thereby forming an oval shaped entrance and cutting edges adapted to be forced into a can cover for forming a round opening therein, an annular flange carried by the cylindrical member, an outwardly extending handle member carried by the flange, V-shaped lugs carried by the flange at opposite sides of the cylindrical member and provided with notches at opposite sides thereof, a washer carried by the lug side of the flange and adapted to be compressed after the cutting end of the cylindrical member has been forced through the can and partially rotated for locking the can in the notches of the lugs.
