Be it known that I, HARRY R. Snavnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to game boards and game tables, and has for its principal object the provision of a board or table having a bed constructed in such a manner as to tend to retain its proper level and smoothness under all conditions. 7

Another object resides in the provision of a bed with means whereby it may be trued should it warp from its original level.

A further object consists in the provision of a girder or cleat secured to the under side of the bed and means passing therethrough for flexing the same to level the bed.

with these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following specification and drawings, in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan.

Figure 3 is a transverse section through a section of the board, one of the cleats and adjusting rod.

Referring to the drawings, the frame of the board or table is made up of the side rails 1 and end rails Qhaving their ends connect ed together in any suitable manner. A bed 3 is carried in the frame and secured therein in any desired manner. In the drawings, this bed is shown as made up of a plurality of sections, but I desire it understood'that the bed might equally as well be made of one piece of material. The bed may be of wood or any other suitable material. Cushions 4 are secured to the interior of the frame, at the upper edge, and as shown the under sur face of the cushions overlie the bed in the usual manner.

In game boards of the character illustrated, it is desired that the bed be retained level at all times. As stated in the objects of my invention, I provide means which tend to keep the .bed level under all conditions as well as means for restoring the bed to level condition should it warp out of its original shape. Girders or cleats 5 are adapted to be secured to the under side of the bed 3', by nailing or other suitable means, and as clearly shown in the drawings, these girders or cleats extend transversely of the bed. m l n lhe girders or cleats are preferably of wood and may be flexed in a manner to be later described. Each of the girders or cleats is provided in its under face with a longitudinally extending groove 6, and as shown said girders or cleats terminate a short distance from the edge of the bed and inner wall of the frame, for a purpose to be later described. The upper face of each girder is cut away, at each end, as shown at 11, to form a space between the upper face of the girder and under surface of the bed.

The rods 7 are adapted to be received in the grooves 6 of the girders or cleats 5 and as shown the ends of the rods are threaded as shown at S and receive the nuts 9 thereon. Washers 10 are preferably placed upon the rods 7 between the ends of the cleats or irders and the nuts 9, and these washers are provided with lips or tongues 12, bent at right angles to the face of the washers, to be received in the cut out portions 11 of the girders. These lipsor tongues 12 will prevent the washers and rods 7 from dropping from the girders or cleats should the rod. for any reason become slack.

In assembling the parts, the rods 7 are placed in the grooves 6 of the girders or cleats 5 and the washers 1O placed in position upon the rods to engage the ends of the girders or cleats 5. The nuts 9 are then threaded upon the ends of the rod and bear against the outer faces of the washers 10.

Should the bed become warped from its original level, the nuts 9 are further adjusted upon the rod and will flex or bend the girder or cleat, causing the bed to seek its level. By the construction and arrangement of the parts as described the bed may very easily be returned to its normal level should it become warped. By providing the groove 6 in the under face of the cleat or girder the rod may be easily removed therefrom when desired. As described, the ends of the girders terminate a distance from the edges of the bed and the inner face of the it this arrangement access may be readily had to the nuts 9 for adjusting them upon the rod or for removing them.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a game board, a bed, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed, and means passing through the girder and engaging the ends thereof for flexing the same.

2. In a game board, a bed, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed, a rod passing through the girder, and means adjustable on the rod and engageable with the ends of the girder for flexing the girder.

3. In a game board, a bee, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed, a

threaded rod passing through the girder,

and nuts on the threaded rod and engaging the girder for flexing said girder.

5. In a game board, a bed, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed and provided with a longitudinally extending groove, a rod extending through the groove, and means on the rod and engageable with the ends of the girder for flexing the girder.

6. In a game board, a bed, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed and having a longitudinally extending groove in its under face, a threaded rod extending throughthe groove, and nutson the rod and engaging the ends of the girders for flexing the same.

7. In a game board, a bed, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed and having a longitudinally extending groove in its under face, a threaded rod extending through the groove, washers received on the rod and engaging the ends of the girder, and nuts received on the rod and adapted to engage the washers.

8. In a game board, a bed, a plurality of spaced girders secured to the under surface of the bed and extending transversely thereof, a rod extending through each girder, and means carried by the rods for engaging the ends of the girders for flexing the girders.

9. A game board comprising a frame, a bed carried in the frame, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed and provided with a longitudinally extending groove, a rod extending through the groove, and means carried by the rod for engaging the ends of the girder for flexing the girder.

10. A game board comprisinga frame, a bed carried in, the frame, a girder secured to the under surface of the bed and terminating a distance from the frame, a rod extending through the girder, and means carried by the rod and engaging the girder for flexing the same.

11. A game board comprising a frame, a bed carried in the frame, a girder secured to the under side of the bed and providedin its under face with a longitudinally extending groove, a washer engaging each end of the girder and provided with a" lip adapted to be received between the upper face ofthe girder and under surface of the bed, a rod carried by the washers and extending through the longitudinal groove in the girder, and means carried by the rod and engaging the washers for flexing the girder.

12. A game board comprising a frame, a bed carried in the frame, a girder secured to the under side of the bed, said girder provided in its under surface with a longitudinally extending groove and in each end with a recess, a washer engaging each end of the girder and having a lip received in the recess in the end of the girder, a rod carried by the washers and extending through the longitudinal groove in the girder, and means carried by the rod and engaging the washers for flexing the girder.

13. A game board comprising a frame, a. bed carried in the frame, a girder secured to the under side of the bed, said girder provided in its under surface with a longitudinally extending groove and the upper surface being cut away at each end to form a space between the girder and bed, a washer engaging each end of the girder and having a lip received in the cut-away portion of the girder, a rod carried by the washers and extending through the longitudinal groove in the girder, and means carried by the rod and engaging the washers for flexing the girder.
