TOOL FOR REMOVING SHAGKLE BOLTS OF AUTOMOBILE SPRINGS AND THE LIKE.
Application filed May 28, 1921. Serial No. 473,333.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that we, CLAUDE O. Dn'rno, REGINALD W. AKIENT, and GEORGES. KENT, citizens of the United States, residing at Burkburnett, in the county of Wichita and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tools for Removing Shackle Bolts of Automobile Springs and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to .a tool for use upon automobiles and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means for facilitating the removal of the shackle bolts of the springs and the like.
Another object of the invention'is to provide means for detachably securing the device to a part of the automobile with an expansible part of the tool engaging another part so that when the eXpansi'ble part is expanded the weight will be taken off of the bolt so that the same can be easily removed.
This invention also consists in'certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illusor correspondingparts throughout, the sevoral views, and in which I Figure 1 is a v ewqshowing the device in use. 1
which it engages by the screw bolt 2 which, passes through a screw threaded hole in one of the bent up ends of the strap. A wrench engaging member 3 is swiveled, by means of the stud e, to the central part of the strap 1 and this member is provided with a in the appended Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the device screw threaded socket 5 to receive the screw threaded bolt 6. The outer end of this bolt is pointed, as at 7, and adjacent this pointed end the bolt is-provided with a transverse hole8.
From the abo'vefit will be. apparent that when the strap 1 is connected with a part will be forced apart due to the longitudinal movement of bolt 6 and thus the pressure of the parts upon'the'shackle bolt 9 will beremoved so that said bolt can be easily withdrawn. Bolt 6 can be prevented from rotating by placing a pin or rod 8 in hole 8 but in most cases the said bolt 6 will be held against rotation the frictional engagement of its pointed end with the spring or other part. i
The device can also be used in other situa-' tions where it is desired to force two parts away from each other.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of our invention will be readily apparent.
We desire it to be understood that we may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several, parts, provided that such changes fall within the scopev of the appended claims.
That we claim is 1-- 1. A tool ofthe character described comprisin a channel shaped member. a screw boltadapted to passthrough a screw threaded hole in thechannel shaped member, a wrench engaging member swivelled to the channelshaped member and being provided with a screw threaded socket and a screw threaded bolt received in the socket as and for the purpose specified} 2. A tool for removing shackle bolts from 1 vehicle springs comprising a channel shaped member designed to engage a portion of the vehicle and being provided with a screw threadedhole, a screw threaded bolt passing through the screw threaded hole to clamp the channel shaped member to the desired portion of the vehicle, a stud swivelled to H the cent-r2111 portion ef the Channel shaped rceired' in thehtran sverse hole as: and fer the by the stud and being provided With a screw In testimony whereof We affix 0dr sighw 10 v 5 afransverse hole and a' pointed end, said member, a Wrench engaging member carried purpose specified.
