a er rt;
JAMES SAMETZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PROPELLER SCREW.
Application filed January 24, 1922.
To all whom-it may concern Be it known that I, J AMES SAMETZ, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Propeller Screws, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of a propeller wherein the blades are elongated horizontally to increase their effective working areas, and connected to the hub by spokes or the like, thereby eliminating the resistance usually offered by that portion of continuous blades adjacent the hub, which have little or no working value.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connec- Serial No. 531,421.
as shown, while the blades at the opposite sides of the hub are oppositely disposed in the usual manner. In contra-distinction to the blades being continued to the hub and indirectly through the medium of spokes or the like 12, thereby providing a space between the hub and the adjacent edges of the blades which eliminates the resistance usually offered by that portion of continuous propeller blades adjacent the hub, and which portion of said blades in reality does not add to the efficiency of the working area of the blades.
lVhile it is believed that the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent. I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that suchchanges may the scope of what is claimed.
lVhat I claim is I A propeller comprising a hub, spaced pairs of spokes radiating therefrom and arranged at diametrically opposite sides of the hub,
be resorted to when desired as fall within the spokes of each pair being diametrically disposed with relation to the hub, a blade supported by each pair of spokes and each blade being elongated horizontally and twisted longitudinally, with the blades eX- tending in relatively opposite directions.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JAMES SAMETZ.
