TOILET-PAPER HOLDER.
Application filed April 8, 1922.
To all whom it may concern.
ie it known that I, AUGUsT W. HART- ;unrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Paper Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to toilet paper holders, and consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the holder secured to a wall.
My toilet paper holder includes a pair of angle brackets 4 and 5 held in spaced relation to each other by a bar 6 fixed by rivets 7 to the downwardly extending back plates 8 and 9 of the brackets 4 and 5. The bar 6 is positioned midway ot' the bends 10 and the ends 11 of the back. plates 8 and 9, and apertures 12 and 13 are punched in the back plates 8 and 9. Apertures 12 and 13 are for the reception of screws 14 for fastening the holder to a wall 15, or the like.
The bracket 4 has an outwardly'extending supporting arm 16 bent from the back plate 8 at a right angle thereto and when p0sitioned in place on the wall 15 the arm 16 is brought to a substantially horizontal plane. The arm 16 is perforated as at 17 near the end 18 to receive a pivot pin and the object of perforation will be disclosed later in the specification.
In alike manner the bracket 5 is bent at a right angle to the back plate 9 making an arm 19.
Formed on the outer portion 20 is a head 21 carried upwardly so the top is slightly higher than the top of the side of the arm 19. Continuing from the bead 21 the outer portion is bent downwardly and then curled upwardly to a saddle 22, the end 23 of which is rounded for a finish. A hollow rod 24 is pivotally mounted on the arm 16 by means of a pivot pin 25 or the like, fixed in the perforation 17, so that the rod 24 may swing outwardly from the saddle 22, thereby plac- Serial No. 550,839.

A leaf spring 29 is pivotally fixed to the pivot 25 inside the hollow rod 24; the pivoted end 30 of the rod 24 being flattened to allow for the width of spring 29 and also that the rod 24 and spring 29 will closely fit together, making a good joint and bearing for the pivot 25,
The free end of the leaf spring 29 is turned down so that the point 81 bears against the inner wall 32 of the rod 24 so that the spring 29 is placed under tension which causes the rod 24 to seat firmly and tightly in the saddle 22.
In dotted lines in Fig. l is shown the position the rod 24 will assume when released from the saddle 22.
The purpose of spring tensioning the rod 24 is so that in pulling on the roll of paper 26 the end of said rod will not jump out of the saddle 22 and thereby lose its supported position at its free end. Furthermore the rod must be yieldingly held in the saddle 22 for the easyremoval when reloading the. rod with a roll of paper.
In operation the knurled piece 27 set in the free end of the rod 24 is grasped and with an upward outward pull and said rod will be released from said saddle. The rod may then be swung to a respective operative position, reloaded by sliding a roll of paper onto said rod, after which the loaded rod may be replaced in the saddle by an inward upward movement.
Various changes in the size, shape and proportion may be made still coming within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A toilet paper holder comprising a pair of brackets adapted to be attached to support, a bar rigidly connecting the brackets, a saddle at the forwardend of one bracket, a hollow rod, a spring in the hollow of the rod and adapted to bear downwardly, and a pivot connecting the hollow rod and spring to the forward end of the other bracket,
