W. E. BATTLE COMBINED TOOTHBRUSH AND DENTIFRICE CONTAINER Filed may 5. 1922 lid tld
Patent dy I7, 1923.
TTES WILLIAM E. LITTLE, E CHICAGO, IILLINOIS.
COMBINED TOOTHBBUSH AND DENTIFRICE CDNTAINEB.
Application filed May 5, 1922. aerial No. 558,684.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. Lrrrnn, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Toothbrush and Dentifrice Container, of which the following is a description.
My invention belongs to that general class of devices known as tooth-brushes and relates particularly to an improved combined tooth-brush and dentifrice container which is of simple construction and exceedingly compact.
The invention has particularly as an object the roduction of a combined device of the kin described that may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost and sold to the consumer at a nominal sum. The same is articularly adapted for use for sale in hotels,
ullman cars and like public places, as well as the usual stores dealing in merchandise of this kind. It is especially adapted for and convenient for the traveler who may overlook taking his tooth-brush and teeth cleanser, or for the person who desires, for sanitary reasons, a frequent change of toothbrush. It is particularly adapted ,for compact use and also as an advertlsing or other novelty.
The invention has amon its other objects the production of an artic e of the kind described that is simple, convenient, durable, compact, efiicient, inexpensive, sanitary, attractive and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable.
Many other objects and advantages of the construction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein given.
To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts, 7
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through my device;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the brush with the dentifrice container removed;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the assembled device shown in Fig. 1;
Fi 4 is a section taken substantially on the hue H of Fig. 3; and
Fi 5 is a section taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
In the drawings, wherein Ihave illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, there is represented a brush comprising a handle portion 1, a head portion 2 and an enlargement 3 between said head and handle. The head, handle and enlarged portion may be made of any desired or suitable material, and of any size or shape, this member being preferably made of wood, which I have'found particularly suitable for the purpose, and very inexpensive. A peripheral notch or groove may be formed at one end of the handle, as at 4, and also at the other end of the handle, as at 5, so as to encircle the enlargement 3. A duct or passageway 6 is provided in the brush and extends from the rear of the enlargement 3 to substantially mid-length of the head portion 2, whereat it communicates with the bristles 7 arranged thereon.
Secured to the handle portion and forming a unitary part thereof, is a dentifrice container made in any preferred manner and preferably of a single sheet of foil formed in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 4, to provide a pair of parallel sleeves or tubes 8 and 9, having a, common dividing wall 12 therebetween, the former tube adapted to receive and closely encircle the handle portion 1 and the latter tube adapted to form a reservoir or container for the dentifrice 11., which is preferably in the form of a paste. The discharge end of the container communicates all with the passageway 6 so that when the contents of the container are ejected by squeezing the tube, or otherwise, said contents will flow through said passageway and onto the bristles. The material of the container may be pressed into the grooves 4 and 5, provided in the brush, and, if desired, wires or the like 10, may be fastened about the container so as to firmly imbed the material thereof'into the grooves 4 and 5 and so sc Curely hold the container in place and prevent any of the dentifrice from working its way out between the container and handle. Thus it is seen that there is provided an extremely compact tooth-brush and dentifrice container capable of bein manufactured at an extremely low cost an which will be extremely convenient and sanitary.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described or uses mentioned, except as claimed.
Vfhat 1' claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1; In combination, a tooth brush having a duct leading to the bristles thereof and having a handle, a collapsible tube having a partition forming a pair of pockets, one of which is adapted to enclose substantially the entire length of said handle, and the other of which is adapted to contain paste, said last-mentioned pocket communicating with said duct and permitting said paste to be dischar ed therethrough when said tube is squeeze t 2. In combination, a tooth brush having a handle and head portion, and an enlargement at the rear of said head portion, there being a bore through the enlargement leading to the bristles on the head, a collapsible tube arranged longitudinally of said handle provided with a paste-containing receptacle and a receptacle to receive said handle portion, and means securing said tube and brush together.
3. In combination, a tooth brush having a handle, a head portion having bristles therein, and an enlargement intermediate the handle and head provided with a assageway therethrough leading to the ristles, said enlargement and handle having peripheral grooves therein, a tube surrounding said handle and enlargement and ,forming a dentifrice container having one end in communication with said passageway, and means encircling said tube at said peripheral grooves and pressing the material of said tube thereinto.'
a. in combination, a tooth brush having a handle, a head provided with bristles, and an enlargement intermediate said handle and head, there bein a passage through said enlargement lea ing to said bristles and a tube on said brush made of a single sheet of foil to form a pair of substantially parallel sleeves, one of which surrounds said handle, and the other of which contains the dentifrice and communicates with said passage.
5. In combination, a tooth brush having a handle, a head provided with bristles, an enlargement intermediate said handle and head, and a duct extending from said bristles through said enlargement, a tube made of a single sheet of foil to form a pair of substantially parallel sleeves, one of 60 which surrounds said handle, and the other of which contains the dentifrice, said enlargement and handle having peripheral grooves thereon to receive the foil material therein, and wire ties encircling the foil at the grooved parts to securely fasten it in place in said grooves.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
