IMPROVEMENT IN NUT-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,106, dated December 30, 1373; application tiled November 26, 1873.

In order to enable Others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describel its construction and Operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a
` side view, of my invention.
A A represent the ends of two adjoining railroad-rails, with Iislrplates B, fastened by bolts ai a and ynuts b b in the usual manner. On the bolts a a is placed a plate, O, before the nuts b b are screwed on. This plate C is v of such length that its ends will bear against the sides of the nuts b b on the bolts a af, and thereby lock the same, so that they can- On the outer side of the plate C, near the center, is pivoted a latch, D, prol vided with a shoulder, offset, Or lug, Lat each hook, i, which, when the latch is turned `down p to lock the nuts, springs under the lower edge of the plate G, and thereby locks the latch. The hook i can readily be sprung out away from the edge of the plate, when the latch may be raised for unscrewing the nuts b b.
I am aware that a pivoted latch having an` upper catch at one end and a lower catch at the other end to act upon the top of one nut and under the bottom of the adjacent' nut is not new 5 hence Idisclaim such as being broadly my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to 'secure by Letters Patent, is-
The pivoted latch D, provided with the hook t' and lugs d d, substantially as and for the pur poses herein set forth.
