Description

ALBERT PORTER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN NUT-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No..139,260, dated May 27, 1873; application tiled March 29, 1813.
To all whom t may' concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT PORTER, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a Nut-Lock, of which the followingis a specification:
Object of the Invention.
The object ot' this ,invention is to lprevent the nuts on the bolts which hold the fish-back plates to railroad joints from unscrewing.
Nature of thelnventz'on.
` To put the nut-lock in place, first put on the two outside nuts; then apply the nut-lock inside of the outside nuts; then screw on the two inside nuts; then bend both ends inward and down between the outside and inside nuts. To remove the nut-lock, bend the two ends in Icontact with the inside nuts outward suicient to remove the two inside nuts.
In the accompanying drawing, marked B,
FigureslandZshowviewsofnut-lock detached, Fig. l beingthe straightbar, andFig. 2 the same when bent to fit between the nuts on the outside bolts. Fig. 3 shows the bargapplied to the {ish-back plate until the nuts on the inside bolts are screwed up and Fig. 4 shows it when the ends are bent down, so that the extended ends come in contact with the screwedup nuts on the inside bolts, so as to prevent the nuts from turning or unscrewing, while the bent ends rest against the inside of the outside nuts, s'o as to prevent them from turning or unscrewing.
Claim.
The perforated locking-plate bent and arranged so that the extreme ends shall lock the inside nuts, while the ends formed by the bend shall lock the outside nuts, herein explained.
In witness that the above is a-true specification of my improved nut-lock, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th dayiof February, A. D. 1873.
