. Application filed March 10; 1921,
T 0 all whom it may con-0cm,-
Be it known that I, MERLEJ W'nsr, a citi t zen ofthe United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county 7 State of ,Wisconsin, have invented new and useful lmprovementsgin Switches, of which the following is a description, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this; specification. p
. The'invention relates to circuit closers.
.T he general object-of the invention is to provide a circuit closer of, simple, compact and strong construction.
A further object of the invention is to rovide a circuit closer having'an exposed pad forming part of the movable contact so that the circuit may be readily'closed by pressing on it with the whole" hand a desirable feature where the closer is used in an alarm circuit.
'The invention further consists in the sev-.
set forth and more eral features hereinafter particularly defined by claims at the.con-,
clusion hereof.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 is a fronteleva- .tion view of a device embodying the invention; F ig. 2 is a side elevation view of the device; 3 is 3-3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a front view of the device with the cover removed; Fig. 5 is a detail view of the movable contact.
- A metal base member 6- is provided with a terminal-receiving recess 7 having aside opening 8, one end 9 of this recess being higher than the other portions of the recess. 'This memberhas holes 10 in its ends to re ceive screws or other suitable fastening means securing the closer, to a suitable supp 7 c y I v secured to the member 12 and the other wire 13 is secured bv' a terminal screw 14 to a'bi shing 150f insulating material mounted in the member 6. The wires 11 and 13 are led into the recess '7 through the opening 8. t
A movable resilient contact member 16 has one end fixedly secured to the member 6 at the end 9 of the recess 17, and a key slot 18 is end of this member.
the recess 7 and is of Milwaukee and f moved tobring the shank of the having one end secured and having afikey slot lIl'ltS other end, and a p a section taken on the line metal base member posts for securing the ends of theconductorj I 7 by means of screws: formednear the other Serial No. 451,153.
. pad 19 of metal or other suitable maerlal has its base portion 20' designedlto fitprovi'ded witha button 21 "or attaching it to member 16 by interlocking portion" 18 ;of the slot l8 'and the pad thenbutton into the'narrow portion of the sl0t 1 8,.as indi-- cated in-Fig. 3 I 1 i r a ,With this construction, pressure'u'pon the lower 'end of thepad19'moves the member 16: n mam-met With'th'ehead of thescrew 14fv to complete the circuit, and this-padhaving a large exposed surface permits the-operator to easilydirecthis hand or elbow against it. for closing the'circuit quickly.'as in the j alarm. The pad 19 j and'member 16 are readily removable from the base member 16' so' case of sending in an that the circuit connections may-be easily made. i; i 1
What I claim as my invention is: lgIn a circuit closenthecombination of a metal base member having a recesswith an elevated endjand aconductor passage lead ing to the recess, a resilient contact plate actuating pad fitting' within the recess and having a button cooperating with said slot to secure the "pad to said plate, a terminal connector in said. recessiin 'circuit with the base member, and an connection in said recess gaged by said plate.
2. {In a circuit closer,
adapted to' be enhaving a recess, binding wireswithinsaid recess, one offsaid. posts being insulated from said member, aresilient plate within the cured'a-t one end movable into contact with said insulated binding post, an actuating pad havingits base fitting in said recess, and adetachable slip-on interlocking connectionbetween said padiand plate. 7
In testimony whereof, I afl iX my signature. I A
