COMBINED FILM SUPPORTER AND HANGER.

T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ARTHUR B. LE P. MnsNY and GIFFARD on J. MicsNY, citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of Washington, in the District of Columbia, and Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Film Supporters and Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a supporting frame and hanger which is particularly adapted to for use in connect-ion with photograph films or negatives or other flat sectional bodies which are desired to be secured or connected to a frame and supported therefrom in a developing or fixing solution, or in the air for drying as desired.

The object of the invention is to provide a combined supporter and hanger of such a combination and arrangement of parts which not only prevents the film from slipping off the support or holder but also facilitates local reduction or touching up of the film and at the same time enabling a greater rapidity of manipulation, and less space required in the developing tank and a reduction in the quantity of developing solution used than heretofore required in the use of this class of devices for the same kind and size of films on work, and at all times will positively and securely hold the film flat and taut in all directions.

A further object of the invention is to' provide a device of the character indicated which will be simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture and which consists of aminimum number of parts which are at all times attached to each other, thereby preventing the loss or misplacement of said parts and enabling the same to be expeditiously and efiiciently operated under all conditions of service.

Theinvention consists of structural characteristics and relative arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, 10 and 11 represent two similar rectangular open frames which are preferably made of small channel bars and are hinged together at their bottom sides by means of any suitable hinges 12, 12, as shown, and the opposite upper sides of said frames 10 and 11 are provided with lateral extensions 13, 13, for purpose of engaging or resting on supporting rods as is common in this class of devices The rcctangular frame 11 on each of its upright and inner sides is provided preferably with two pins or pointed projections 14., 14:, which are adapted to enter openings 15, 15, in the upright and inner sides of the other frame 10 and registering with said projections 14:, 14, for purposes to be presently described.

The lower and inner side of the frame 10 near the hinges 12, 12, is provided with a combined guiding and supporting ledge 16.

One of the sides of the frame 10 is constructed with a lateral stop 17 at its outer edge against which abuts the ed e of a film when inserted or adjusted in the holder. 18, 18. are clamps pivotallv connected to the upper side of the frame 10 and are so constructed. arranged and disposed as to pass over the upper and outer sides of each of the frames 10 and 11 and firmly hold them together and from swinging open on their hinges 12, 12, as will be readily understood, when the film is inserted in the holder to be presently described.

I The parts being constructed and arranged as shown in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, the manner of applying and using the same is as follows:

The two clamps 18, 18,being elevated so as to disengage the upper sides of the frames 10 and 11. said frames are separated by each hand grasping one of the extensions 13, 13 and with a pivotal action on their hinges 12, 12, so as to assume a position shown in Fig ure 3. When a film F, is inserted with its lower edge resting on the supporting ledge 16 offrame 10, said film F, is then slid to the left while movably resting on the ledge .16 until the left edge of the film F abuts against the lateral stop 17 when the frame 11 is swung on its hinges 12, 12, and seated against the inner side of the frame 10, during which operation the pins 14;, 14:, on frame.

11 pass through the film F, near its side edges and into the corresponding depressions or holes 15 in frame 10. After these operations the clamps 18, 18, are turned down to firmly and securely hold the frames 10 and 11 together, whereby as will be readily under stood the interposed film F, is immovably held in a taut condition between the frames 10 and 11. Said clamped frames 10 and 11 with their film then are grasped by the fingers of the operator at the extensions 18, 13, and adjusted and supported by said extensions on any suitable means or bars in a solution of developing medium or washing liquid, or in a current of air for drying after developing and washing.

From the foregoing disclosure of construction and arrangement of the different elements comprising the device and manner of applying and operating the same, it will be seen that all the objects, functions and advantages set forth in the statement of invention have been fully and efficiently carried out with a minimum number of parts and cost of manufacture, installation and operation.

It will also be understood and is obvious that various other forms and modifications of the combined holder and supporter would readily suggest themselves and may be made without departing from the essential features and underlying principles of our invention, and we do not wish to be understood as limiting ourselves to the specific and preferred constructions herein shown and described.

lVhat we claim is:

1. A combined film supporter and holder comprising an open rectangular frame having a lateral extension at its top and a supporting ledge at its bottom portion and a stop at one of its sides, a second open rectangular frame having a lateral extension at its top and hinged to said first mentioned frame so constructed and arranged to clamp a film when said two frames are superimposed upon each other, and means for locking said two frames together.

2. combined film supporter and holder comprising an open rectangular frame hav- 1ng a supporting ledge at its bottom portion and a stop at one of its sides, a second open rectangular frame hinged to said first mentioned frame so constructed and arranged to clamp a film when said two frames are superimposed upon each other, means for locking said two frames together, said rectangular frames having lateral extensions at their tops for separating and holding the film supporter in its upright position.

3. A combined film holder and supporter comprising an open rectangular frame having a supporting ledge at its bottom portion, a second open rectangular frame hinged to said first mentioned frame so constructed, arranged and adapted to clamp an interposed film when said two frames are superimposed upon each other, and means for locking said two frames together.

4. A combined film holder and supporter comprising an open rectangular frame having a supporting ledge at its bottom portion and a stop at one of its sides, a second open rectangular frame hinged to said first mentioned frame so constructed, arranged and adapted to clamp an interposed film when said two frames are superimposed upon each other, and means for locking said two frames together.

5. A combined film holder and supporter comprising an open rectangular frame having a supporting ledge at its bottom portion, asecond open rectangular frame provided with projecting pins and hinged to said first mentioned frame so constructed, arranged and adapted to pierce and clamp an interposed film when said two frames are superimposed upon each other, and means for locking said two frames together.

6. A combined film holder and supporter comprising an open rectangular frame having a supporting ledge at its bottom portion and a stop at one of its sides, a second open rectangular frame provided with projecting pins and hinged to said first mentioned frame so constructed, arranged and adapted to pierce and clamp an interposed film when said two frames are superimposed upon each other, means for locking said two frames together, and an extension on each side of said frame for supporting the same.
