Description

june 26, 1923. L4335 E. L. GLAVIN CUR'IA IN HANGER Filed Dec. 14 1921 Patented dune Ed, M23.
CURTAN 'HANGER Application led December 14, 1921. Serial No. 522,365.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BERNARD L. GLAVIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to curtain hangers and the like, and the purpose of my invention is the provision of a hanger of eX- tremely simple, durable and ecient construction which includes a track and roller supported brackets movable in the track and adapted to movably sustain curtains thereon, the construction of the track, rollers and brackets being such as to prevent twisting of the brackets and rollers thereby insuring of the proper movement of the rollers within the track.
l will describe one form of curtain hanger embodying my invention, and will then point out the novel features thereof 1n a claim.
lln the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a view showing in side elevation one form of curtain hanger embodying my invention in a plied position. l
Fig. 2 is an e arged fra entary view, partly broken away, and s owing 1n side elevation the hanger shown-in lFig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary lan view, partly broken away, showing the an er, v
Fig. d is a View showing the anger in end elevation. i f
Reterrin specically to the drawings in which simi ar reference characters refer to similar parts, my invention, 1n its present embodiment, comprises a track designated nerally at 'll and formed from a single length of metal bent longitudinally to provide an upper securing portion 15, depending parallel portions 16, and inwardly' projecting track portions 17 which, as clearly shown in Fig. t, are bent upon themselves for the purpose ofpreinforcement.
The track T is adapted to be secured to a suitable support such as the trame F of a passageway by means of screws 18 or other suitable fastenin members which are ertended through t e upper portion 15 of the track, it bein particularly noted that the application o t e screws is facilitated by virtue or" the spacing of the track portions 17.
Rollers R are mounted on the ends of a. stub shaft 19 sustained in the parallel portions 20 of a bracket designated generally at lB, the latter also including a horizontal por- 'tion 2l connecting the. parallel portions 20 and provided with an opening tor the reception of the upper end of a hook 22. This end of the'hook is rotatably but irremovably secured Within the bracket by means of a head 23 fixed to the' swaged end as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 4l.
In the applied position of the rollers within the track T, they are disposed for rolling contact upon the upper side of the track portions 17, it being particularly noted that the rollers are relatively wide to secure the greatest amount of traction possible. In thisposition of the rollers, the hook 22 is sustained in dependin relation to the track by means of the brac et B, the latter also serving to maintain the rollers in proper position within the track. lt is to be particularly noted as shown lin Fig. 4, that the length of the bracket B is such that the parallel portions 20 project beneath the track portions 17 so that with their dat sides contacting with the confronting edges of the track portions, it will be clear that any twisting movement of the bracket is prevented. As a consequence of this arrangement, the rollers are maintained in the same rolling contact with the track portions at all times thus insuring of the free and unrestricted longitudinal movement of the bracket within the track.
ln practice, the track T is adapted to sustain a plurality et brackets and hooks in edecting the supporting of one or more curtains in upright position as shown in Fig, 1 and by virtue of the unrestricted movement of the brackets and hooks within the track, it will be manifest that an easy adjustment of the` curtains upon the hanger can be readily e'ected and without the possibility of the rollers jamming to prevent movement of the brackets.
Although ll have hereinA shown and described only one form of bracket embodying my invention, itis to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention and the spirit and sco e of the appended claim.
claim as my invention:
A curtain hanger comprising ametal track including an upper sustaining portion, spaced depending portions, and inwardly bent track portions disposed in spaced relation to Sti ldd
Mld
each other, a bracket of U-shaped formation having the parallel portions thereof extended between the track portions, a stub shaft mounted in the parallel portions of 5 the bracket at a point Within the track, rollers carried by the ends of the stub shaft and having rolling contact with the inner sides of said track portions, and a. hook swivelly sustained on the horizontal portion of the bracket. 10
1n testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
BERNARD L. GLAVIN.
