Description

June 26, 1923. 1,460,320 T. FREY LIFTER Filed April 18, 1922 Patented June 26, 1923.
NITED STATES attain THEODORE FREY, OF GUIDE ROCK, NEBRASKA.
LIFTER.
Application filed April 18, 1922. Serial No. 554,701.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE FRnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Guide Rock, in the county of lVebster and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lifters, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to improvements in pump or pipe gripping and lifting devices and resides in the construction, combination and operative association of parts set forth in the following description and falling within the scope of what is claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a general view of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the grip ping element.
As disclosed by the drawing, I make use of a substantially U-shaped frame. One leg 1 of the frame F is of a greater length than the other leg 2, the connecting element 3 between the legs being disposed angularly with respect to the legs. The legs have one of their faces serrated transversely as at 4 and provided with openings 5. Through certain of the aligning openings 5 there pass securing elements in the nature of bolts 6 which are engaged by nuts 8 that sustain on the frame the trough-like pipe or pump receiving member or clamp 10. The longer leg 1 has its outer end provided with a yoke-like portion 11 through which passes the opera ing rod or lever 12. The connecting element 3 for the frame is formed with a boss having an opening therethrough which may be and preferably is enlarged from its outer end to receive therein a smaller boss 13 formed upon the inner face of a pipe or pump gripping element 14, a pivot 15 connecting the element 14: to the fra e- The element 14 has its active face cam-shaped, concaved and toothed transversely, as at 16. The gripping element 14 is thus in the nature of a cam, and the operating rod 12 is pivoted thereto, as at 17. It will be apparent that the trough-like pipe or pump receiving member may be adjusted on the frame and that a pull on the arm will swing the concaved toothed face of the cam into contact With the pipe or pump, so that the same may be effectively gripped and lifted.
It is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawing will fully set forth the construction and advantages of the improvement to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates and that further detailed description will not be required.
Having described the invention, I claim 1. A U-shaped frame, a trough-like member adj ustably secured thereon a cam member pivoted thereto opposite the trough-like member, said cam member having a rounded concaved toothed face disposed opposite the trough-like member, and an operating rod pivoted to the cam and guided through the frame.
2. In a device for the purpose set forth. a U-shaped frame whose arms are serrated and provided with openings, a trough-like memher having its inner face toothed to engage the teeth of the frame, means passing through the trough-like member and the referred to openings in the frame for securing the said member on the frame, a cam member pivotally secured to the connecting element of the frame and having a rounded active'face which is concaved and toothed and which is disposed opposite the trough-like member, one of the arms of the frame having yoke-shaped ends, and an operating lever guided through the yoke and pivotally secured to the cam.
In testimony whereof afiix my signa-
