HUSK FOR ELECTRIC-LIGHT FIXTURES.

Be it known that I, JOHN WILLIAM SoHULzE, a citizen of the United States,.

residing at Providence, in the county of Providence, State of Rhode Island, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Husks for Electric-Light Fixtures to be Used in Connection with Electric Ball Lamps, of which the following is a speci- 1o fication.

My invention relates to that class of husks which are placed around a socket and used in connection with a socket cover. Devices of this kind with which I am familiar are generally soldered upon the ends of the socket cover and are as a rule difficult to put into position and when in position are fixed permanently that the user cannot change them if he desires to do so.

My invention has for its object to provide a husk which will be adaptable for use in connection with thestandard socket having the U-No thread formed thereon and will absolutely obviate'the necessity of using the 28 socket cover if it is desirable to omit that part of the fixture, and has for its further object to accomplish this in such a manner that all soldering is done away with and the device can be changed at will of the person 30 using the same. Other advantages will appear from the hereinafter contained description and claim. Y

My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings which are hereunto annexed and are a part of this specification in which- Fig, 1 is a cross sectional view ofmy improved device. I

As shown in the drawings, the lighting socket 1 is of the usual or standard construction and is provided with what are known to the trade as U-No threads 2 formed upon the exterior surface thereof adjacent the lower end 3 of the socket. My improved husk 4 comprises an annular member which is upwardly flaring as at 5 so as to in a large measure hide the socket from the observer as he views the fixture from the floor. This annular member 4 is provided with a concave surface 6 which is fitted to the curvature of the lamp bulb 7.

which is screwed into the socket 1. Around the edge of the opening on the inner side of the annular member is an upwardly extend- I ing lip 8 which is provided with internal threads which fit the threads 2 on the socket 1.

It will be apparent from the foregoing description that after the fixture is installed, all that is necessary to do is to screw the anhular member 4 upon the threads 2 and there will not be any additional operation which is necessary or required to complete the ornamental appearance of the fixture. It will also be apparent that if one desires to use the socket cover it can rest upon the inner surface of the annular member 4 but there will be no necessity for soldering the same in place. Also that when the owner desires to change the ornamentation on the husk, he can do so without the use of tools or without having to call in a lighting fixture man.

It will be obvious to persons skilled in the artthat by this arrangement I have successfull done away with the necessity for any too s in the installation of the husk and that it accomplishes the ob'ects set forth in the preamble of this speci cation, as well as the additional object of providing a refleeting surface which assists in distributing the light from the reflector to the working plane, inasmuch as the concave surface 6 being finished acts as a reflecting member to redirect the light rays passin upwardly from the filament of the lamp 7 downwardly to the working lane.
