Description

June 26, 1923.
J. T. HILDEBRAND STOVEPIPE Filed Sept. 22. 1922 ATTORNEY WITNESS: v
Patented June 6, 1923.
"i ii sate.
JOHN T. HILDJEBRAND, OF BITZ, ARKANSAS.
STOVEPIPE.
Application filed September 22, 1922. Serial No. 589,825.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN T. HILDEBRAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ritz, in the county of Scott and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stovepipes, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stove pipe sections and has for its principal object to produce a pipe of this character formed from a single length of metal and having a means provided on its longitudinal edges for locking the edges together.
Another object of the invention is to produce a stove pipe section which is formed from a single sheet of metal and having one of its longitudinal edges bent upon itself to provide a longitudinal groove having openings formed therein to receive lugs provided on the opposite edge.
A further object of the invention is to produce a stove pipe section of this character which is simple in construetion,'eflicient in operation and which may be manufactured and marketed at a moderate cost.
This invention alsO consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts in the several views, and in which In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the invention in looking engagement.
Figure 2 is a view of the invention showing the device in open position.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on lin 4- 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts 1 indlcates a single sheet of metal rounded intermediate its ends as shown. ()ne of the meeting edges of said strip is bent upon itself inwardly and then outwardly to form a longitudianl groove 3 which has aligned slits 4 formed therein and the opposite meeting edge is bent inwardly to provide a bevelled flange 2 designed to be engaged by the outermost edge of th bent portion forming the groove 3. The slits 4 are adapted to receive inwardly and downwardly inclined lugs 5 which project from the bevelled flange 2 thereby holding the edges in locking enga ement. By this peculiar construction it IS seen that when the edges are in looking engagement an even exterior surface is provided at the meeting edges as clearly shown in Figure 3. To remove the edges from locking engagement. it is simply necessary to raise the edge having the lugs 5 formed thereon so as to disengage the lugs from the slits 4.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended'claim.
WVhat I claim is A stove pipe section formed from a single sheet of metal having one of its meeting edges bent upon itself inwardly and then outwardly to form a longitudinal groove havin a plurality of slits therein, and its opposite meeting edge bent to provide a bevelled flange adapted to accommodate the. outermost portion of the groove so as to make the meeting edges engage in parallelism to provide an even surface, and inwardly and downwardly inclined lugs projecting from the bevelled flange and designed to engage the slits for holding the meeting edges in locked engagement as described.
In testimon whereof I affix m si ature.
