To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, MADALiNn VAN DEU- snN Davis, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of il/lilwaukee and State of llVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breast Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the 'following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to breast protectors and more particularly to one which is especially designed for nursing mothers.
rIlhe object of the invention is generally to provide a device of this kind to not only support the breasts in position so that the lacteal glands may be sufficiently distended but also to positively prevent any milk from coming in contact with the clothing and soiling the same.
In describing my invention, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my device in the position in which it is worn.
Figu're 2 is a rear view of the same.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the pockets, and
Figure 4 is a sectional View of the saine substantially on the line ef-et of Figure 3.
My invention comprises a pair of pockets 5 which are formed with double walls, the inner wall 6 being composed preferably of a soft fleecy fabric, while the outer wall 7 is rubberized. he edge of each pocket is surrounded by a binding tape 8 and the lower part thereof is gathered, as shown at 9, by means of an elastic 10 which is secured under tension within the lower portion of the binding. The pockets are separably secured to each other, as shown at 11, and the outer edges are connected by an elastic band 12, which extends around the body underneath the arms.
The device is supported by means of the straps 13 which pass over the shoulders and are'secured at one end to the strap 12, as shown at 14, While the other ends aie secured to the upper edges of the pocketsY The straps 13 are preferably adjustable by means of buckles 15, or other suitable means, so that the protector may be adjusted to accommodate persons of different sizes.
'From the foregoing description, it Will be have shown specifically one structure Wherein the principles of my inventionmay be embodied, various modifications may be made in the precise structural details thereof without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, the i combination of a pair of pockets formed with double fabric Walls, the oiiterwall being rubberized and the inner wall being fleecy, said pockets being separably connected in juxtaposed relation to each other, nieans for supporting the same on a womans body in position to receive the breasts, said means including an elastic band passing around the bo-dy underneath the arms, and adjustable straps passing over the shoulders, a binding extending around the edge of each pocket, and an elastic cord secured under tension to the lower edge of each pocket to gather the same.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a pair of pockets formed with double fabric Walls, the outer walls being rubberized and the inner walls being tleecy, said pockets being separably connected in juxtaposed relation With each other, means for support-ing the same on a womens body in position to receive the breasts, said means including an elastic band passed around the body, adjustable straps passed over the shoulders, a binding extending completely around the edges of each pocket, and an elastic cord secured under tension within the binding at the lower edge only of each pocket to gather such lower edge.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing` I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee in the county of Milwaukee and State -of Wisconsin.
