SKIVING MACHINE.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, yAUGUST` BERRER, ya citizen of Germany, residing in Feuerbach, in Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skiving Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
This invention relates to an apparatus for leather skiving machines with revolving annular knives, and has for its object to mount the feed device, revolving within the annular knife, beneath the cutting edge,
'so as to swing outwardly from the housing.y
By this construction the part which most hinders accessibility to the remaining parts may be easily and convenientl y swun out of the way, so that then all of t eremaining parts become easily accessible. At the ,same time the apparatus is so constructed that the swinging out of the feed device from the casing, as well as its swinging in into `operative osition, at all times may be easily ac-l complished without removing other parts of the machine, so that every interruption may be easily and quickly avoided and a thorough cleaning and repair may always be conveniently undertaken. f
The exchanging of the annular knives and the grinding discs and other work in the interior of the machine may be accomplished without having to unscrew or remove the l rated therein. i

In the machine housing 1 which is an integral casting and therefore strongand capable of holding the working parts in proper relation is mounted the annular knife 2 which is driven by the driving wheel 3 and shaft 4. The machine head 5 carries as usual the pressing device 6. Laterally of the knife blade is mounted a revolving grindin disc 7 the position of which may be regu ated in well known manner by a screw 8. It is driven by the pulley 10 through a shaft 11v and through a bevel or worm gear mounted in the box 12, which drives the shaft 13. The latter is coupled through a readily removable connecting rod 14 (Figure 2) with the feed roller 9.
T he feed roll 9 is mounted on one arm of a right angled spindle 15 which is carried by a short krdouble-armed lever 16, and in such manner that the roller. itself runs upon one `arm ofthe spindle 15, while its other arm is rotatable in the leverv16, and
has secured (so it may be adj'ustably fixed in position) upon its outer projecting end/a bent lever `1'?. This lever serves to vsupport the feed roll 9 and the leather in proper relation with the annular knife, the adjustment being accomplished on the one hand by-a yspring 19 which may be regulatedby a screw 18, the spring being connected at its other end with the lbever 16, and onthe otherhand through aset screw 20, whichbears against the lower arm of the lever 16. The lever 16 is mounted upon a spindle 21 which' is carried' byv a vertical ycarrying member 22 capable of being rocked about avertical spin-y dle 24 fixed in the housing 1. v
By means of this arrangement it is, possible to `swing the entire feed device described (Figure out of the housing 1 about the spindle 24. In this position of the feed device all the other parts of the machine within the housing are conveniently accessible. In the other, that is, the operative position, a stop, such as the pin 25, which bears against the housing 1, will alwaysl de` termine the position ofthe entire feed device. This will be maintained in working position through a spring 26, engaged with f ya pin 27, the tension of which may be regulated through a thumb nut28. Thespring y 26 is connectedat its free end with the hook 29, which is carried on vthe lower arm of the lever 16'. In the same arm is threaded the set screw 30 which bears against the shoulder 23 formed in the base of the housing 1, and which screw serves to regulate the position of the feed roll 9 in soV far as its distance from the knife blade is concerned. For the purpose of swinging out the feeding device it is easy to disengage the spring 26 from the hook 29 'and later to re-engage it. The short rodlt serving as a coupling piece is so constructed that it may also be easily removed and then again replaced. It will be noted that the feed roll is supported through the bent spindle'l and the lever 17 upon an axis which is normally parallel with the axis of the knife and that the lever 16,'which supports the spindle l5 and lever 17 is'mounted upon a horizontal axis which is normally at right angles -to the axis. .of the knife, and

In a skiving machine, the combination of a housing, an annular knife, a feed roll cooperating therewith, a lever supporting the feed roll and mounted upon an axis normally parallel with thexaxis of the knife, and a second lever on which the firstfnamed lever is mounted and l:itself mounted upon a hori zontal axis normally at right angles yto the axisy of the annular knife, and means to adjust the first named lever with respect to the second lnamed lever. v
6. In a skiving machine, the combination of a housing, an annular` knife, a feed roll cooperating therewith, a lever Vsupporting v,

In a skiving machine, the combination of a housing, an annular knife, a feedv roll cooperating therewith, a lever supporting the feed roll vand mounted upon an axis' nor mally parallel with the axis ofthe knife, and a second lever on which the first named lever is mounted and itself mountedu-pon a horizontal axis normally at right angles to the axis of the annularknife, and a spring engaging the second named lever to hold the same normally in operative position.
