IMPROVEMENT IN SHIPS HULLS.
Specifica tion forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,832, dated December 23, 1873; application iiled August/1, 1873.

The accompanying drawing represents a side view of a ship of my improved construction.

It will be noticed that the body or hull of the vessel is extended forward of suoli front part of the deck and made to come to a sharp point.
An upwardly-projecting ledge, c, is formed on such extension, and made quite narrow, to readily cut the head waves and allow them to be scattered out of the Way of the ship before the deck can reach them.
On this plan of construction ships will be less liable to be influenced by the action of the waves, and will be apt to attain a higher' degree of speed than can be attained under the old construction.
I claim as my invention- A ships hull, constructed with an extensionbow forward of the deck and provided with narrow upward projections c on such extension, substantially as described.
