SKEG ATTACHMENT FOR VESSELS.
No. 352,682. Patented Nov. 16, 1886.v
UNITED STATES I PATENT QFFICEO THOMAS GORDON EDMQNDSON, on raaron SPRINGS, FLORIDA.
SKEG ATTACHMENT FOR VESSELS.
EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,682, dated November 16 1886. Application tiled :April 12, 1886. Serial No. 198,575. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS GORDON ED- MONDSON, of Tarpon Springs, in the county of Hillsborough and State ofrFlorida, have invented a new and Improved Skeg Attachment for Vessels, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a yacht -s hull provided with my improvement; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the rear part of the same, showing myiinp rovement in section.
The hull A has a sloping stern, B. The triangular skeg-casing D is'attached beneath the latter. It has vertical sides E E, and its rear end is formed by the upright F, to which the rudder M is hinged at L. Said upright passes through and is fixed in the stern B, in order to give due rigidity to the skeg-casing and provide a secure attachment for the rudder.
The bottom of the casing D is in line with the keel, so that it draws no more water than the hull proper. Within the casing the triangular skeg H is pivoted at its front end. It
third, it does not come below the line of the keel, and will hence clear or pass whatever the latter docs.
What Iclaim is In con'ibination with the sloping stern B, the
skeg-easing D, having itsbottom aligned with the keel and its rear end formed by the upright or post F, which is securedin the extremity of the hull, and the triangular skeg H, pivoted at its front end within the like shaped casing, all as shown and described.
THOMAS GORDON EDMONDSON.
