PATENT @Fli ll TOY 0R ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Application filed September 19, 1922.
T 0 (LE whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY ALBERT Honoriroiv, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 95 Strand Street, Douglas, Isle of Man have invented a certain new and useful Toy or Advertising De vice, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an impro ved device particularly suitable for advertising and comprises a frame adapted to contain a representation of a waterfall, river or fountain or other display of water, whilst a source of water is connected to the back of the picture, the origin of said water-display, whilst the water flowing down over the surface of the picture is collected by a trough.
The device of the present invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which 2- Figure l is a front view.
Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation.
Figures 3 and 1 are details.
Within the frame 1 is enclosed a picture 2 which may be an oil painting on canvas, metal or other backing which picture includes as part of the representation a waterwall 3 or other display of water. The picture however, will at this place not be substantially in a single plane, but will be in the form of a has-relief, so that the water will be contained within a ridge or gulley so formed to fall from the top to the bottom to be collected within a trough 4 mounted within the picture frame 1, which trough 1 is in connection with a reservoir 5 at the back of the frame.
Means may be provided if desired, for raising the water from the trough 5 to a supply tank 6 from which the water flows through an adjustable cock 7 and connection 8 to an outlet port cut through the canvas or the like backing 9 of the picture and opening to the other side of the ridge or ulley 3.
The pumping of the water from the reservoir 5 to the receptacle 6 may be effected automatically for instance, the latter receptacle 6 may contain a float 10 having a slotted rod 11 connecting with a pin on the end of a spring controlled snap lever 12 which lever 12 carries a metal bridge piece 13 forming electrical contact between two pieces 14, 15 in the circuit of an electric motor 16 which drives a water pump 17 by means of a belt and pulleys 18. As the float Serial No. 589,140.
10 rises, however, the bottom of the slot in the piece 11 will contact against the lever 12 and will trip the switch and shut off the motor, which will. remain shut off until the float sinks so far until the top of the slot in the piece 11 will bear down and trip the spring control lever 12 to again start the motor 16. 1
The motor can be driven from a batterv which also may beenclosed within a casing 19 mounted on the back of the frame 1 and enclosing all the parts.
Alternatively to the spring controlled snap lever mechanism operated by the float to act as a switching device. the float may carry a contact arm adapted to bridge over c0ntacts arranged on insulated conductors mounted on the back of the tank, so that when the water level reaches a definite position the motor circuit is completed and the pump operated to replenish the tank.
The device of the present invention can be used as an ornament or again as an advertisement which advertisement can be attached or mounted on the frame enclosing the picture.
I declare that what I claim is As an article of manufacture a picture comprising a flat backing, a frame supporting said backing, a device in has-relief covering a portion of said backing, a receptacle behind said backing communicating with a perforation therein adjacent the apex of said portion in has-relief, a receptacle collecting water at the bottom of said backing, a pump, means connecting said pump with said receptacle. a main reservoir supported on said frame point above the perforation in the backing, a float in said main reservoir, means to drive the pump and means operated by said float to cause the operation of the motor driving the pump whenever the water level. in the main reservoir falls below a predetermined degree and means to interrupt the driving of said pump when the water level has reached a predetermined degree in said reservoir.
In witness whereof, Ihave hereunto signed 'my name this 8th day of Sept. 1922, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY ALBERT HOUGHTON.
