Be it known that I, PAUL E. Boer, citizen of Canada, residing at Walkerville, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Container Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in container caps for milk or other fluids and has for its principal object to produce a conical shaped member having its widest portion flared outwardly at each side thereof to fit the neck of a bottle and extend ed downwardly from the flared portion along the sides of the bottle so as to evenly distribute a film of cold fluid upon the apex of the conical shaped member so that such fluid will be evenly distributed along the sides of the member for keeping the milk or other fluid within the bottle cool and fresh.
Another object of the invention is to produce a device of conical shaped formation having its widest portion flared outwardly and a rubber gasket pressed into a metallic rim and soldered to the inner sides of the conical shaped member for resting upon the top of the bottle to which the flared portion is fitted over.
A further object of the invention is to produce a container cap having a centrally located upwardly extending non-splash portion, whereby water directed upon the top of the cap will be prevented from splashing.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the invention as applied to a bottle.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the con tainer cap partly in section.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail view of the metallic rim.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail view of the rubber gasket.
In these views 1 indicates a conical shaped member formed from a single strip of metal having its widest portion flared outwardly Serial No. 553,302.
as at 2 and extended downwardly so as to fit the neck 3 of a bottle 4. A rubber gasket 5 is set and pressed into a metallic rim 6 and soldered to the inner sides of the conical shaped member as at 7, said gasket is adapted to rest upon the top of a bottle when the device is applied to the latter.
When the conical shaped member has been applied to the neck of the bottle, the latter is placed in a receptacle 8 and set in a sink beneath a spigot 9, so that when it is desired to cool the milk or other fluid contained within a bottle, the user turns on the spigot to allow the water to flow upon the apex of the conical shaped member and be evenly distributed downwardly along the sides thereof until the receptacle in which the bottle has been placed has become filled. The rubber gasket which has been pressed into a metallic rim is adapted to hold the conical shaped member in an upright and firm position on the neck of the bottle. In using a device of the character described it will be apparent that any other cover or closure for the bottle will be unnecessary. This container cap has a centrally located upwardly extending non-splash portion and the same is designed to prevent the water directed upon the top of the cap from splashmg.
From the above it will be seen that when a device of the character described has been placed upon the neck of a milk bottle and the bottle has been inserted in a receptacle and placed in a sink beneath the spigot, and the user wishes to cool or keep the fluid within the bottle fresh the spigot is turned on to allow the water to flow downwardly upon the conical shaped member and evenly distributed upon the sides of the device until it reaches the receptacle in which the bottle has been inserted. The user of the device allows the water to run until it has reached the surface of the receptacle, then the water is turned off and the receptacle may be pushed to one side of the sink and left until it is desired to use the milk or fluid contained within the bottle.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several arts, provided that such changes fall with in the scope of the appended claim,
What I claim is A container cap comprising a conical shaped member having" its Widest portion flared inwardly and extended downwardly 5 therefrom to fit the neck of a bottle, a metallic rim arranged above the flared portion and soldered to the inner sides of said conical shaped member, a rubber gasket pressed into said metallic rim for holding the conical shaped member in an upright and firm posi- 10 tion upon the top of a bottle.
