The casing comprises a back 10, sides 11, bottom 12, top 13 and front 14. The back, sides, bottom and top preferablyconstitute parts of a single sheet metal blank. whereas the front 14 is separate and secured to the forward edges of the sides 11 in any preferred way, preferably by having the opposite vertical edge portions bent substantially as indicated in Figures 5 and 6 and electrically welded to the inner faces of the side walls. The inner fianges 15 at the vertical edges of the front 141 are inset the thickness of the sides 11. whereby the outer faces of the sides 11 and the folded edges of the front 111- arc about flush. The rear dges of the sides 11 and top 13 are flanged7 as indicated at 16. to overlap the outer or rear side of the back 10 to which they are electrically welded or made secure in any preferred way. The enclosing walls, with the exception of the front 1st, are flat. whereas the front 141 is forwardly curved between its top and bottom edges and has upper portion cut away to provide an opening` 1T which is closed by means of a swinging door 18. The door 18 is of such length so that when closed, a transverse opening is provided for the passage of the clothesline 1. as indicated most clearly in Figure 2. The lower edge of the door 18 and the edge of the front 14 bordering upon the lower part of the opening 17 are thickened to prevent injurious Contact with the line 1 as the same is wound upon the reel 2 or unwound therefrom. The door 18 admits of ready access to the interior of the casing and its lower end readily adapts itself to the position of the line 1 when extended and under tension.

Similar upper and lower brackets 19 are attached to the back 10 of the casing and each includes a depending stud 2O which is centrally disposed and of non-circular forni so as to prevent any swinging movement of the casing when attached to the wall 9 or other support. The brackets 19 may be of any construction but are preferably formed of sheet metal which is fashioned into the shape substantially as shown. rllhe studs 2O are adapted to enter keepers 21 carried by a plate 22 which is formed with openings to receive screws 23 or like fastenings whereby the plate 22 is adapted to be attached to the wall 9 or other supporting means. rPhe plate 22 and keepers 21 constitute parts of a wall bracket to which the casing is adapted to be detachably connected.

rl`he reel 2 is journaled at its ends in brackets 2-1 secured to the back 10 of the casing and disposed within the latter. One end of the reel shaft projects beyond a side of the casing and is adapted to have a crank handle 25 applied thereto for convenience of rotating the reel to wind the clothesline 1 thereon. A ratchet wheel 26 is fast to an end of the reel 2 and cooperates with a pawl 27 pivoted to a bracket 28 attached to the rear wall 10 of the casing. Backward rotation of the reel is prevented by the ratchet wheel .26 and pawl 27, thereby preventing the unwinding of the clothesline 1 therefrom after being extended and properly arranged for supporting articles to be aired and dried. The pawl 27 is adapted to be manipulated by means of an arm 29 which is pivo ed at its lower end thereto, the upper end of said arm extending through a slot 30 formed in the top 13 of the casino', one end of the slot 30 being contracted, as indicated most clearly in Figure 3, whereby to support the arm 29 and pawl 27 when the latter is disengaged from the ratchet wheel 26 to admit of the line 1 being readily drawn from the reel when extending and arranging the same for service. The upper end of the arm 29 is enlarged to provide a iingerpiece and lateral shoulders 31 which engage portions of the top 13 bordering upon the contracted portion of the slot 30. whereby to support the arm 29 when lifted to disengage the pawl 2T from the ratchet wheel 26. Projections 32 at the inner end of the contracted port-ion of the slot 3() are adapted to engage the lateral shoulders 31 of the arm 29 and retain the latter in elevated position against possible displacement An element 29 is carried by the reel. 2 to permit the inner end of the clothesline 1 to be secured to the reel `What is claimed is:

1n a laundry hanger, a casing for receiving a clothesline reel. the same having its front forwardly curved between its uL per and lower edges and having an opening in the upper portion thereof, and a door for closingl said opening hinged at its upper edge and adapted to swing outwardly at its lower edge and of less length than the opening so that when closed an opening is provided for the passage of the clothesline, the edge portions of the door and front bordering upon the clothesline opening being` thickened to prevent injurious contact with the clothesline.
