UNRTED STATES LEWIS c. DANNBEUTHER, or OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA.
scrovn, I a 3' To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, LEWIS C. DANN- REUTHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma city, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
An object of the invention'is to provide a stove which is adapted to both heating and cooking purposes.
Another object is to provide a stove that will cause a better circulation of the air in a room.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the ensuing description.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan view of the improved stove, with one of certain supporting grates removed.
Figure 2 is a front elevation.
Figure 8 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Like characters of reference designate like parts in all the figures.
The improved stove includes an enclosing and supporting cabinet of rec'tfingular shape, this cabinet having a bottom 5, rear wall 6, and side walls 7.
The cabinet is provided at or a little above mid-height with a shelf or baflleplate 8 which divides it into a lower compartment 9 and an upper compartment 10, and the front edge of this shelf has adepending flange 11 which is connected to the side walls 7 and constitutes the only front wall of the cabinet.
Both compartments 9 and 10 are left open forward, and the upper compartment is left open upward except as partially closed by burners, grates, and a pivoted plate later described.
That portion of the cabinet below the bottom 5 is formed into supporting legs 12.
A burner 13, in the form of the well known perforated pipe, extends across through the lower compartment 9 and is supported by passing through the side walls 7.
In arranging burners in the upper compartment 10, a horizontal rectangular frame 14 is set in said compartment at about midheight thereof, the ends of said frame resting on cleats 15 secured to the side walls 7.
This frame 14 is formed with a number Application filed December 21, 1921. Serial No. 523,999.
of square openings 16, of which there are three in this instance, and agfls burner "17 is set in the center of each opening.
- These burners 17 are provided with the usual outlet orifices l8 for'gas, and are supported by having the-lugs 19 of their tubular necks 20 bolted to the front portion of the frame 14:. v
A pipe 21 to supply gas to the burners 17 extends across in front of the upper com? partment 10 and is connected to the neck 20 of each of said burners by a shortconnection 22 having a cut-off cook 28.
The end of the lower tubular burner 13 is provided with a coupling 24 having a cutofl? cock 25 outside the right-hand side wall 7, and a flexible pipe 26 which may lead from a suitable gas supply (not shown) is connected to said coupling by a T-joint 27.
A'pipe 28 leads from the T-joint 27 upward and is connected to the supply pipe 21 by an elbow 29.v
The three openings 16 of the frame 14: are rabbeted as at 30, and skeleton grates 31 rest in said rabbets to support cooking utensils over the burners 17 .1
A plate 32, shown only in Figure 3, has its rear edge pivoted to the side walls 7 above the rear edge of the burner-supporting frame 14.
This plate 82 may be closed down into horizontalposition on the frame 14 to support cooking utensils not intended to be exposed to direct flames from the burners 17,- or it may be dispensed with by being opened upward and rearward into the position in- I dicated by the dotted lines 32".
When the burner 13 of the lower compartment 9 is burning, the flame 33 therefrom causes a draught of air to enter the lower portion of said compartment from the open front along a course indicated by the arrows 34, said air passing up around said burner and back forward out the upper part of said compartment under the depending flange 11 of the baffle-plate 8.
This action of the air in passing into the compartment 9 and back forward therefrom causes the air immediately in front of said compartment to be put in motion and to move upward along the course indicated by the arrows 35.
The motion thus imparted to the air. in and immediately in front of the lower compartment 9 would be brought about by any of t l lk heating stoves now 1n use;
but in the present invention a portion of the air draught leaving the compartment 9 and rising immediately in front of the cabinet is drawn into the lower portion of the open front of the upper compartment 10 by the action of the flame 36 of the burners 17 in said compartment, thus imparting to the rising column of air infront of the cabineta movement that causes a more thorough circulation of air in a room than can be accom plished by other stores.
The following is claimed 1. A combined heating and cooking stove, embodying a cabinet provided with a baffle plate dividing the same into upper and lower compartments, a depending flange at the front of said baffle plate, burners in the upper part of the upper compartment, and a burner in the lower compartment situated at a distance from the front thereof, wherebyth'e air is drawn into the lower compartment up and around the burner therein and out beneath said depending flange and into the lower portion of the upper compartment. I v
2. A combined heating and cooking stove, embodying a cabinet provided with a baflie plate dividing the same into upper and lower compartments, a depending flange at the front of said baffle plate, burners in the upper part of the upper compartment,- a burner in the lower compartment situated at a distance from the front thereof, whereby the air is drawn into the lower compartment up and around the burner therein and out beneath said depending flange and into the lower portion of the upper compartment, and a frame over the burners of the upper compartment.
Witness my hand this 17th day of December, 1921.
LEWIS C. DANNREUTHER.
