Patented June 5,1923n CARL TOBER, or BERLIN, GERMANY.
BRAIDING MACHINE.
Application led January 31, 1921.
seriai No. 441,423.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS F THE ACT 0F MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L., 1313:)
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CARL TOBER, a citizen of Germany, residing at Berlin-Karlshorst, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Braiding Machines (for which I have obtained a patent in Germany, No. 329,602; in Belgium, No. 285,048; in Luxemburg, No. 11,621; in France,y No. 512,221; in Holland, No. 6,701; and in Grt.
Britain, No. 155,808), of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to braiding mar chines, in which the inner bobbins are carried by slides, which are moved along a track around the braiding axis by rollers. The slides carrying the inner bobbins and bobbin frames therefor exert a certain amount of pressure on the tracks along which they move, resulting in sliding friction. The object of my invention is to eliminate said friction, which object I obtain by providing special guide-rollers carried by the said slides, which guide-rollersmoveon a supporting track, whereby the pressure exerted by the bobbin slides on'their track is wholly or partially taken up, resulting in a considerable reduction of the sliding friction. The supporting track is provided with 3o small notches Jfor the threads of the outer bobbin to pass, so that the threads will not be injured by the said guide-rollers.
Also a weight may be carried by the said slides, which, through centrifugal action,
produces an upward component of pull, adapted to wholly or partially compensate i for the gravitation of the said weight and the other parts carried by the said slides. This weight may, of course, be embodied 40 in the said guide-rollers.
My invention is illustrated by way 'of example in the accompanying somewhat diagrammatic drawing, showing a partial sectional elevation of a braiding machine. For
the sake of simplicity only one of the inner bobbins 20 has been shown, carried by the slide 37, which is equipped with a roller 23, adapted to be moved by a set of driving rollers 30. In the illustration the driving roller 30 is shown vertically below the roller 23, While in reality the roller 23 and the driving rollers 30 co-operating therewith are not in the same vertical plane.
The driving roller 30, which is rotated by the toothed wheel 32, cooperating with the toothed ring 33, moves the slide 37 through the roller 23 about the braiding axis. slide 37 carrying the. inner bobbinv 2O moves along the track 41 provided on the supporting arm 24. The latter, together with the carrier 7 fory the outer bobbins 18, revolves around the braiding axis in a directionl opposite to that of the slides 37.
The roller 23 is loosely connected with the slide 37, to which is also connected the bobbin frame 50, which carries the inner bobbin 20 and the bracket 101, forming a bearing for the bobbin axle. .The bracket 101 carries a roller 75, which moves along a track 76, formed on the carrier 7. The roller 75 is loosely mounted on a pivot 102. and consists of a disc of steel or the like, on which is mounted a rim 75a, preferably of fibrous material. The pivot 102 of the roller 75 is carried Aby the bracket 102. To the latter, if desired, a weight 110 may be attached, the purpose of which is to compen; sate, because of its centrifugal action, the weight of the bobbin and the bobbin frame.
By the arrangement of the supporting The track 76, along which move the rollers 75, the
pressure of the slides 37 on the track 41 is relieved, whereby the friction is materially reduced.
In order to prevent any injury to the outer threads as they pass over the track 76, the latter is provided with small notches, as in dicated, to receive the saidthreads. f
I claim as my invention:
1. In a braiding machine, the combination with the inner and outer bobbins revolving in opposite directions and bobbin frames therefor, of slides carrying the inner bobbins, rollers carried by the said slides, a track for the said slides, driving rollers for moving said rollers and thereby said slides along the said track, means for operating the said driving rollers, guide-rollers carried by said slides, and a supporting track vfor said guide-rollers.
2. The combination as set forth in claim fixed my signature in presence of two Witl, in the bobhin frames for the sd nesses. inner o ins are provided With Weg ts, 1 adapted to compensate by their centrifugal CARL TGBLR 5 action the Weight of the said bobbins and Witnesses:
the said bobbin frames. RICH.- MARDHGEL,
In Witness whereof I have hereunto af- BERNHARD GRTZ.
