Patented May 22, 19233.
rattan LEE ABE RHODES, 0F HUMBLE, TEXAS.
BAILEB.
Application filed May 28, 1921.
1 '0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEE A, RHoDEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Humble, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Bailer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a bailer for wells.
One object of the invention is to provide a bailer by means of which a well can be quickly bailed.
Another object is to provide a bailer equipped with a valve which acts as an inlet valve, when the bailer is let down into the well, but which will readily open to dis charge the fluid when withdrawn from the well.
\Vith the above and other objects in view this invention has particular relation to oer-- this sleeve there is a block 3 threaded into the barrel and abutting against the sleeve. A valve seat 4; is carried by the upper end of the sleeve and co-operating therewith there is the lift valve This valve has a depending stem 6 which works through a central bearing in the block 3 and whose lower end, extended below said block and en larged, forming the foot 7.
The barrel has large inlet openings 8, 8, which pass also through the sleeve 2.
The bailer will be suspended by a cable and as it passes down through the water the valve 5 will lift to let the barrel fill. When the bailer is lifted the valve will seat and retain the fluid.
Serial No. 473,457.
When the bailer is elevated to the surface it is sustained on the ground or derrick floor and the rod 6 is pushed upwardly, the foot '7 seating in the recess 9, in the lower end of the block, and the valve is thereby lifted, permitting the water to drain out through the openings 8. p
It is to be noted that the lower end of the barrel 1 and block 3 are rounded off, or ballshaped, so that the bailer will not batter, or distort the upper end of the well liner, but will have a tendency to more readily enter the same.
l/Vhat I claim is 1. A bailer including a barrel whose lower end is closed, and provided with a lateral opening, a valve seat in the barrel above said. opening, a lift valve adapted to rest on the seat, a stem depending from said valve and extended below thebarrel, and a bearing block in the lower end of the barrel through which the stem has a bearing which limits the stem to substantially a longi tudinal movement.
2. A bailer including a barrel, a block in the lower end thereof having a central beariug, said barrel having a lateral opening above said block, a valve seat above said opening, a valve thereon, a stem depending from the valve through said bearing, a foot carried by the lower end of the stem, the underside of the block having a recess to receive the foot when the valve is elevated.
3. A bailer including a barrel, a block in the lower end thereof having a long vertical central bearing, and whose lower end is ballshaped, said barrel having a lateral opening above said block, a valve seat above said opening, a valve thereon, and a stem depending from the valve through said bearing, said stem being confined to lengthwise movement by said bearing.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
